Got a dog today! (Patreon)

Today was an eventful day for our family. We got a dog! 

My kids have been asking for a dog for a few years. Every time they'd ask me (or my wife), the conversation would be essentially the same:

Kid: Can we get a dog?

Me: Maybe someday, but not now.

My wife and I didn't know when "someday" would be, but figured we'd know when the time was right. 

A few days ago, my wife found out one of her high school friends was fostering a dog that was rescued after a huge storm in Mexico. My wife showed me photos of him and she said, "Isn't he cute?"

He was super cute and he needed a home. The time was right. We drove to Roseville, CA to pick him up today.

We fully planned on naming him Oscar. But when we met him, we realized he didn't really look like an Oscar. He's kind of dorky and his ears and eyes reminded us of the character from Harry Potter, Dobby the House Elf. So we named him Dobby. (For those who may not be familiar with Dobby the House Elf, see the last photo.)

Dobby's settling in really well so far. No drama from either of our cats. Max is pretty chill - he's curious about Dobby and has been following him around. Hannah on the other hand, is mostly avoiding him. No hissing or puffiness from either cat, surprisingly. Of course, Dobby isn't exactly threatening. He's five months old and weighs about 20lbs. He might get a little bigger, but not much.

Right now Dobby is crashed out on our couch, on his new blanket. It's been a long day for him. It's been a long day for all of us.
