I took this photo of Max and Piper in my daughter's room yesterday. When they have these peaceful moments together, it's worth documenting because they are rare.

We've had Piper for three months now. She gets along really well with our dog, Dobby, but Max doesn't like her. They've had a rocky relationship ever since she arrived. When this happened, I thought they were becoming buddies. I was wrong.

As of right now, they're not buddies. Most of the time, Piper attacks Max relentlessly. Her go-to move is to run up behind him and bite his butt. You might be thinking, "She just wants to play with him," and I think sometimes this is true. But my wife and I both feel like she has kind of a "bully" energy with Max. She always chases him off his favorite chair, which is now her favorite chair.

Piper struts around like she's the new sheriff in town. It's funny how a tiny cat can rule the roost.

Cats find it hard to accept new members. Dogs are “hey, ya’all come.” We’ve had Sammy for over 5 years and he and Ollie still have their moments. No biting but ambushing, chasing and taking over favorite spots are part of Sammy’s MO. Usually Ollie gives as good as he gets I’ll give him that. A good whap on the nose puts Sammy in his place

Max swats Piper on the nose to correct her but she just keeps coming at him. She is relentless

Time to bring on the squirt bottle! By now all I have to do is hold up the squirter and say “ what’s this? “ All shenanigans stops.

Oh dear! If if were dogs, you could nip that in the bud. But with cats ... I like Nancy's idea about the squirt bottle. Funny story about my menagerie. I have two dogs and two cats. Both cats and one dog are elderly and the other dog is middle aged. For whatever reason, Marshall, the tuxedo cat, goes after Zoe, the middle aged pit bull (very small pittie - only 44 pounds). Marshall goes into his kung foo kitty stance and Zoe just looks at him. I don't think she would really hurt him, but I always break it up. My babies make my boring life less boring.

Our Chilly never accepted our Max. Then, when Max got bigger, he just became the dominant one because “he” was a bully. We lost Max when he was 13 in 2019. Chilly is now 20 (I thought she was 19, but realized my math was wrong! 🤯) Chilly is the queen now and there won’t be anymore pets til she goes.. So, I am glad to hear it’s not just my cats that didn’t get along…..😉

My Phoenix was bullied by my Baby initially. Now it's the other way around. Funny. They tolerate each other pretty much. That's a good thing. 😻

Cat going after the pittie? That’s gutsy. Pets always keep things interesting!

Pitbulls are wonderful love bugs if they haven't been tortured by very very bad people. And even most of those poor dogs can be recovered with love. My Zoe was adopted from a private rescue during the pandemic after the homeless woman who owned her couldn't take her with her when she went to a shelter. It has been my experience that dogs owned by homeless people are very friendly because they have to meet strangers all the time. Zoe treats everyone she meets as a long lost best friend, both humans and other animals. 😊

Yep, kinda feel silly, all these years I have been counting how long we’ve had her instead of figuring out what year she was actually born…🙃 Gotta give her credit for those 20 years! 😊
