Mike has nothing to defend himself with. He knows how badly he screwed up.

DreamerKay

Wow what a look! I didn't know James could get mad like that

RAGNAROKEM 888

Why do I get the feeling this is a part that is pushing Mike to commit suicide

SomeColourMage

Mike, it has been four months since you've been asked what you actually meant and you still can't answer that. maybe it's time to just start admitting to the truth from the start?

iluC

Time for Mike to find new friends! This is a good thing, because we will see new characters!

Red Miso

Dodged a bullet but is still in no man's land hanging out the main cast. They can't ever catch a break

Sap

Mike, how much longer is it going to take to just come clean dude… I’ll always support Mike and await his redemption but cmon dude just can’t keep suppressing yourself.

Antares

Mike keeps getting chances to give his side of things but consistently fails to find it in himself to actually elaborate in any meaningful way, that guilt has to be eating him up so badly, dang.

FATALITY

So this is 2 times James has given him now ("Mike is this true" and obvs him turning around now to try and at least get /something/ out of Mike) so I dont wanna hear any of yall saying hes vapid and shallow over this. Especially given the fact that if I had a personal friend and knew that that person drove another to attempt and almost complete suicide, I dont care how deep that friendship runs thats horrid. James is absolutely shallow when it comes to his crushes/affection but I think this is what true like...loyalty and understanding is ya know? At the core of his superficiality he does have a heart and worry about his friends, and knows whats okay and whats not.

Domo Plushie

Idk how people still defend Mike.

Brittany

See and this is your problem mike, stop making excuses and just own up to what you did. The fact that you wont say “yeah i said that and it was wrong” is why people are getting mad at you. No one wants to be fed excuses, they want to see accountability and changed behavior.

Rocky Wolfknight

Mike just come clean James stop it and just hear him out. You made it kinda obvious you jump from one person to the other without even a second thought. Not to mention there's a much deeper history between them too

Aria

if this wasn't rock bottom for mike already, it certainly is now. ouuuchhh

Joselyn Rivera

This is it. This is where he breaks. Someone get 911 on speed dial

ABCDBUTLUR

Wow ……. F##K James , and poor Mike sure he made mistakes but he doesn’t deserve this

Mearcyn

At this point, Mike cant even make excuses. He cant even lie and say "If I could go back I would never say those things to her" because he meant every word. They were literally finally hanging out again and once Sandy texted him saying she was coming to visit, he switched on Lucy immediately. Thats not okay. Then when Lucy said shes happy for him and wished him the best, he spewed venom and hate at her until she puked and ran home. I dont feel any remorse for Mike for his actions. I only feel bad for him because it hurts to be alone. I believe he needs to make new friends and be less self centered and more humble. Mike is a good person at his core I believe, but right he's a shitty kid learning how to navigate relationships and take accountability. Wild that this comic has me thinking this deeply about cartoon critters 😅 ive been reading for 16 years

esinololly

lol to be fair I dont think Mike would ever treat James like he treated Lucy (I dont think Mike will ever treat anyone else like he treated Lucy because of the specific nuance to it) but honestly I dont blame James for wanting to keep his distance anyway

Artie Blue

I feel for Mike as much as the next guy but I can't help but shake my head in immediate disapproval at him immediately playing the "You don't get it / I didn't mean it / Give me a chance" card, like c'mon man.... You already had the chance to explain yourself Multiple times. His biggest problems are being unable to truly accept and admit that he messed up (key note here that acknowledging and accepting are two different things), and his inability to move on. He's keeping himself trapped in a cycle by not making the effort to move on, no matter how hard it is. (And he got sooooo sooooo close with joining Track. So Close. But we all know how he fell into bad habits with that, too...)

whiteboypizza

I’m so curious how Mike would handle that whole situation if he could go back and change things. I wonder how often he thinks about it. Like, I believe him when he says he didn’t mean what he said — insomuch as he let his emotions get the better off him and he was way WAY more harsh than he should’ve been. It certainly doesn’t change nor excuse the consequences of what he said, though. He’s gotta let those walls down sometime and own up. I hope we get a symbolic dream/nightmare sequence from him soon — assuming he’s sleeping at all nowadays

Skid

James rolled a 1 on the self-awareness check when it comes to how often he changes romantic fixations. Even his team mates have foreshadowed previously that he isn't someone to be romantically involved with. That being said, that was a nasty line. Oof.

CauliFlower

I completely forgive Mike for crashing out in December. But since Lucy came back, he’s repeatedly tried to sabotage her efforts to stop being the person that he claimed to hate.

Mandy Seley

Kudos, Taeshi, for how accurately this comic captures that "every feeling I have is TOO BIG and I have no idea how to handle it" reality of being a teenager. Man, I do not miss that one bit! XD

Calico Dragonalia

And here we see the prime reason most Mike Haters hate Mike. 0 accountability. He refuses to ever acknowledge that there was shit on both sides and INSISTS that he's innocent. Always justified always innocent. Not gonna say too much on James though considering how fast his switch up from Mike to David was. He barely knows these guys, of COURSE he's going to want to ditch Mike after hearing all of that and then hearing him go "I just got mad, I didn't mean it. Please don't leave me." No real, "I did it, I shouldn't have and I regret it." Just "I got mad."

Michelle M.

James sucks in many ways- he is flighty, inconsiderate and selfish (although I do love him, lmao). That being said, I can’t blame him for having a really bad reaction to what he just witnessed. Mike has not done a good job painting himself in a positive light, and he basically all but admitted to using James. I would be upset and confused, too.

Kiall Vun Myeret

Was waiting to see how things turned out before giving my thoughts to avoid acting on impulse, and it doesn't seem that Mike has any fighting spirit left so here goes. Lucy is heavilly twisting the truth of what happened if not outright lying Mike "leading her on" is equally or more her not being able to let obsession of Mike go Mike was not leading her on when he got on a bus to find Sandy, explicitly told her to not follow him and she got on like some crazy stalker anyway Mike was not leading her on when she confessed her feelings to him and he flatout told her no. In fact the entire friendgroup got angry at Mike for not following their favorite ship so at that moment Mike was the only person of the cast to not lead her on. Seriously how do you lead someone on when you straight up say no to their confession?

Elmanii

People are saying that Mike needs to just open up, take accountability, and tell the truth. Yet has anyone ever thought that maybe he's just struggling to put it into words as a teen who's rightfully feeling overwhelmed in this moment? Because after what Augustus just randomly pulled. We're now expecting this emotional kid to be able to immediately summarize years of pent up emotions that led to one singular explosion to an outsider? I'm reading what Mike is saying and I completely understand how it may be hard to explain everything that happened and the exact emotions he was feeling when it happened. To someone who wasn't even there to experience any of it. Also, is Mike going to be expected to tell everyone about his past every time he makes new friends? Because at this point he might as well not even have friends. If he's going to be expected to tell every person he meets about what happened with Lucy. Because I can see Augustus or James seeing him making new friends. Only to reignite the rumors and repeat this process all over again. That would be like any of us meeting someone new and being expected to share our entire life history with them when we first meet. Because if someone were to come along and tell them something about our past. Then we'd be treated like we were wrong for not revealing everything about ourselves day one. When they weren't even around for that chapter of our lives.

PAM

Supposed to be 12 pages left. I hope this is his rock bottom. Only one way it could get worse from here. 🫣😟

Apri

Stop James, he's already dead……

Sugar Jalisco-Kardia

I really would love it if James puts together the day that Mike tried to get them to stay inside. Like, the track team LITERALLY gave him an alternate out, but Mike still latched onto the one person who had shown romantic interest in him as the only option (and the one worth hurting Lucy over). That's not a good show of change behavior from what was revealed here at all.

Ethan Mazur

Imagine if Mike tells Sandy she deserves better and then decides to use the school roof to learn how to fly. What would make it even crazier is if Lucy was the one to find him.

Vito

Every following page feels like another hit of the hammer to the nail in the coffin oofffff... Here's my thing about James changing his interest often. James falls for people easily and is the one putting his feelings on the line pursuing them (regardless of it being short lived but he is baring his heart.) Mike doesn't have to put his feelings on the line because he already knows he doesn't like these people back but leads them on because he likes the "worth" it gives him. Now they're all moving on because he turned them down and suddenly he's panicking because he thinks he has no worth anymore.

SCD

You sure did, James. You sure did.

Heartz13

I honestly hope at some point, he talks to paulo about it. It might put a little bit more perspective.

Nev Ravenoak

I want to be annoyed at James, but Mike's final response here has me disappointed. The one time I want to feel bad for Mike and he biffs it! Come on, man. No one's gonna buy "I'm sowwy. Please feel bad for me uwu" Like this is what he always does....

Slipdance

The only way this gets worse is if James says something along the lines of ‘the wrong person jumped’ as a parting shot.

Comacoma

I was at first confused by James' intensity here? But then I went and reread this chapter focusing solely on the fickle baby and, yeah, no, I would probably be this upset too. Mike all but confirmed he was trying to use James as someone to keep around for validation, and this last line would sort of confirm it for me, if I was in this cat's shoes.

Kirk Findlay

That was your chance to admit you did wrong and that you understand James leaving..... or just be quiet.
