Behind the Scenes: Rain Check, the first Pass (Patreon)

Hey! So last time I showed you the original concept for Rain Check. That was completely trashed.. so let’s see the process for what became Rain Check!

Notably, in the page where they’re walking to Burger-Tron, the sketch STILL has Lucy holding the umbrella. Even though an umbrella is no longer used in this version. A cadaver of what coulda been..

Dumping this here because I still like how pathetic Paulo looks :( I’m not entirely happy with the face now, probably something I’ll take a crack at when this volume goes to print.

At this point I wasn’t sure how to end the chapter yet. It was already a lot to be told to essentially nuke my original idea and start something new. I was angry! I hated that I had to remake it! My heart wasn’t in it! My heart was still in the original idea! So this ending is clearly an afterthought, a “there, done” little tantrum of mine. Luckily I got over it and worked properly later.

I wanted an epilogue similar to the original idea, where Lucy meets Augustus at home. This page is supposed to be Lucy sitting around at Burger-Tron, while Paulo and Daisy were talking in the rain. Lucy becomes curious, grabs Daisy’s drink, takes a sip, and enjoys it. Clearly never went far enough to get penciled haha!
