Bow before the mighty dragon gods...

The Draconis Fundamentum puts a magnifying glass on everyone's favorite scaly, flying, (and often fire-breathing) predators. This book's archetypes, feats, spells, and monsters are designed to give players and GMs their dragon fix, finally fulfilling our long-time goal of making it possible to play a party entire composed of dragon-themed characters, regardless of class or race. Moreover, our new feat chain allows you to gradually transform your character into a dragon, providing a boon to dragonborn and half-dragons alike.

Changelog:

4/3/17: Dragon Rider: Draconic Mount: Proficiency bonus is only added to the damage of melee attacks

Dragon Rider: Fight as One: Dragon only gets its extra attack when it is being ridden as a mount

Lesser Dragon: AC reduced to 13

4/4/17: Dragon Domain: Dragon Staff: Clarified to expend charge when used

4/5/17: Dragon Rider: Fight as One: reworded

4/7/17: Jade Dragon: Dragon Orb: Copy-paste error fixed, Red Jade Orb added

6/25/18: Dragoon: Velocity feature reworked

Dathan

So glad this was published on a night where I'm already up late

Kaleton

Looks great so far - noticed a little typo on the first page though. It says "bow a creature" in the barbarian section, I think you meant "cow a creature" right? If not, then my bad

Mage Hand Press

My intention was 'bow' as in to make bowed, though it's always possible I'm using that incorrectly.

Kaleton

Ahh, I see. With that context in mind it makes perfect sense. I think that wording it as "...bonus action to force a creature to bow before your draconic presence" for clarity's sake. But maybe I'm just too finicky.

Ninja_Prawn

I was thrown a bit the first time I read it, too, but on reflection I reckon it's an acceptable use of poetic licence. If more people are confused though, we might need to change it.

Bellator

Quick question, on the Dragonrider Ranger, does the player or the DM control the dragon? Sorry if I just didn't see that in the book.

Shadistro

Can't download on iOS for some reason :(

Shadistro

To clarify I do mean iOS mobile

Mage Hand Press

The dragon follows your commands, so it's generally under the control of the player. Of course, if the player character starts acting out of character, the dragon might refuse to follow orders.

Mage Hand Press

We checked it on an iOS device, and it works for us. It's possible that you need to update or something.

Superdude

Dracolexi, also known as Dovahkiin. I can't wait to play a bard now!

Grand Moff Xela

I am concerned about the balance of the Dragon rider Ranger in general. What I'm seeing is basically Beast master but better, since you get a CR 1/2 creature with a fly speed and multiple devastating attack methods. Additionally, said beastmaster+ gets a better version of the revised ranger 5th level feature, as the companion can move before attacking.

Mage Hand Press

Yeah, this thing has been a total chore to balance. There's quite a few things I can do to scale its power, but what I've been considering is removing it adding your proficiency bonus to damage. And you're right: the Fight as One feature probably needs some revising. Do you think I should directly use Coordinated Attack from the revised ranger, or try to do something different here?

Grand Moff Xela

Removing proficiency would work well in my opinion. It still might be too good since the base companion is still a CR 1/2, and beast master never gets above a 1/4. Fight as One is interesting and flavorful, but I feel that this subclass needs something to distinguish I from beastmaster. When I read it I think "Oh, it's Beast master with and dragon." I think a new feature is called for. What if whenever your dragon uses its breath weapon you gain a bonus to weapon damage until the end of your next turn? Have the bonus damage be of the same type as the dragon breath.

Joseph Blanc

When I first heard of this, I though: What kind of subclasses could you make based on dragons? There can't be that much variation can there? As soon as I saw the "Dracolexi" dovakin Bard, I remembered: This is the Middle Finger of Vecna. They always find ways to out do themselves.

Joseph Blanc

Keep up the great work, guys. I never regret my pledge

Mage Hand Press

So we're making prof. bonus to damage only apply to the dragon's melee weapon attacks, and we're changing the 5th level feature to apply only while you're riding the dragon. We also reduced the dragon's AC a little. That should cut down potential power. We're still actively playtesting it, so more changes might come as that develops

Grand Moff Xela

Sounds good to me. That's a significant nerfed at also makes it much more a Dragon Rider.

TheNightNinja

For Dragon Staff, it's not spelled out if expending the energy causes the staff to become uncharged. Is the intent that you spend one spell slot to charge the staff, then can use that energy until you take a short or long rest? Because that seems a bit broken? :)

Mage Hand Press

That's not the intent; it should expend that charge upon being used. I'll reword things to make that clearer

Quick Q here, recent patron: There seems to be a 503 error I keep getting when clicking on PDF links like the one above. It might be because I'm on Mac, but is there any other place a Patron could access these exclusive PDFs?

Mage Hand Press

Are you just having problems with this one or all of them?

Mage Hand Press

I just tried it myself and I'm /also/ getting a 503 error. That probably means it's a problem on Patreon's end -- hopefully a very temporary one. Edit: According to their twitter, it's a sitewide problem that started about two hours ago.

BardlyWritten

Thank goodness my computer isn't dying on me or something. Also, I absolutely love what you did with the Muscle Wizard, and have you read the Compendium of Forgotten Secrets for warlock yet? It's a super cool book that I think you could use to give a lot more depth to warlock patrons, which happen to be my favorite class.

Mage Hand Press

I have not read that one yet -- I'll look into it! If you like warlocks, you might like All Patrons Eve on here, which is a short book of warlock patrons we did for Halloween last year. Also, by the way, welcome to our little corner of the internet! Here's hoping the problems resolve themselves swiftly and you can dig into everything!

BardlyWritten

I hope to soon. Also, another suggestion: You've made quite a few homebrews that add extra spells, but I don't know what classes' spell lists they go on, ie. Chronomancy I can only assume is for wizards. Also, I've seen plenty of things in homebrew, but as an idea, I don't think anyone has made a cross between Rogue/Druid. Just some ideas from an excitable DM!

Mage Hand Press

Giving class lists for new spells is standard for our newest books, like Dark Matter. And I can add a rogue/druid archetype to the list; I think a green stalker archetype might be fun!

BardlyWritten

Or maybe a Warlock Rogue, since that would combine my two favorite classes...anyways, I'll save you the trouble of searching for the Compendium. The guy/girl who made this went /completely/ all out, leaving no stone unturned. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9p7DxYuE-3VQWRpNGQ0ckxLcTQ/view In fact, it's also really cool that some of the pacts have actual drawbacks to them, like a chance of your character dying in the Accursed Archive.
