Patreon is adding tax... (Patreon)

Hey There,

Folks, I have news, and I’m no more happy about than you are.

Patreon is being forced to collect Sales Tax (VAT, GST, it goes by many names and acronyms) and they are charging YOU to get it.

You can expect an email from them on June 1st explaining the details, but as I understand it, the upshot is this (bear in mind, I can be wrong here, trust their word, not mine): 

• I am not charging this tax.  Patreon is.
• My share of what you are billed is not going up one cent
• I do not plan on changing tier rates.  They are as low as I can make them.
• The tax is added on top of your total pledges across all creators. 
• The tax is based on the laws of where YOU told Patreon you live. This means I have no idea if you’ll be hit or not, or for how much.
• There is confusion if the tax can be applied from the creator’s home area. I live in an area with roughly 10% sales tax, but -at the moment- it doesn’t apply to digital downloads, so I don’t think it won’t be an issue.

I’m sorry this is happening. It really grinds my gears that you are being charged more, but I have no control over it. 

If you decide you need to move on, I understand. No hurt feelings, or anything like that. This is the platform not having their ducks in a row, Hopefully, it won’t be that big a disruption.
