I actually had to do some research on this, about whether frogs actually dig themselves into mud on land for hibernation. Turns out that some spend the winter deep underwater (where they also dig themselves into the bottom), while some hibernate on land, in leaf litter, for example. So Swordfish is actually a pretty knowledgeable hoard-keeper!

I was also really happy to draw a proper bog for the last panel! They are a significant part of nature in my homeland, and what a sight they are! Perfect for visiting now that the weather is cooler here.

Since this comic is going public ASAP (for the plushie campaign reasons), I present to you a bonus experimental panel from poor Swordfish’s point of view. Inspired by all those 0.5x lens horse pictures. Gods, I need to clear my gallery of those. Anyway, this is what the hatchlings see whenever an adult dragon decides to menacingly loom over them. But how menacing is a massive snout in your face, really?
