This is not a dream. We are transmitting through your subconscious from the future...that is, later this week.

That's right, Patrons, you are getting first crack at the audio from our Prince of Darkness episode recorded live at ArmadilloCon! The non-patron listeners won't receive this transmission for a few more days.

Also, I've added a few outtakes from before the show started that will not be included in the final version.

From us to you, our Brotherhood of Sleep, enjoy!

Frank Grimes

gotta go w/ Man behind the mask as the better horror song...but I'm also biased towards Jason overall.

Not sure if it's a boner or not, but kind of surprised you didn't mention that this is also a Carpenter remake. Prince of Darkness was, technically, a remake of Hammer Film's Quatermass and the Pit. Hence the screenwriter pseudonym Carpenter used when writing it. Quartermass and the Pit (also known as Five Million Years to Earth) was about a group of scientists uncovering an ancient crashed spaceship and the psychic effects it was having on them. And the aliens were horned, looked like the devil, and were able to induce mass hypnosis. It's a really cool movie. Interesting side note, Stephen King also adapted Quatermass and the Pit in 1987 with The Tommyknockers.

Oh wow! I didn't know that. Apparently, the Hammer film is itself even a remake of the original Quatermass and the Pit television serial that aired on the BBC in the '50s. Added to Amazon list...

Speaking of the transmissions from the future, one of my favorite little Easter eggs of DJ Shadow's "Endtroducing..." album (that was so ubiquitous in all coffee shops in the '90s) was how he peppered the album with the Transmissions from "Prince of Darkness". When I noticed that, I was really excited (and used it as a doorway to introduce friends to this movie).

Also, not sure I 100% agree with Cargill's assessment of audiences not liking the mix of religion and sci fi. The problem with "Crystal Skull" wasn't the alien element; it was the washed out cinematography, the terrible muffled audio and half-assed ADR, practically propping Harrison Ford up so he could barely act, and (most of all) the piss poor green screen and CG effects that distracted rather than enhanced scenes (ouff, that abysmal jungle chase). It was a terrible movie, regardless of alien involvement. Or Hellraiser: Bloodline, where the poor filmmakers had their budget cut six times during production, had to gut half the script, and basically duct taped together what they could to finish that film. It is flawed as hell, but I love it because I know the story of what the filmmakers went through. Unfortunately most audiences don't get the backstory. It's not sci-fi + religion's fault; it's just that the end product was really flawed. (heck, it's still better than Pinhead Takes Manhattan...which is still better than Jason eventually ends up in Manhattan for 3 minutes). Event Horizon didn't do terribly. I'd argue that Star Wars, and more so Empire, are very much religion/mysticism + sci fi. I think people are willing to get on board, but the movie has to be good.
