Routh gave a worthy effort. Giving the fact it was released a year after "Batman Begins" & a few months before the "Casino Royale" reboot, I think the general viewing public was not in the mood for an old-fashioned superhero film in the mold of Donner's '78 film or his 1980 "Donner Cut". A shame, because I think had Routh been given a second film -- audiences would have came around, accepted him -- as well as the retconned timeline that ignored the 1983 & 1987 sequels. For me, the only weak part of "Superman Returns" was Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane; VERY one-note in her acting. Rachel McAdams would've been my choice as Lois, as she was the IT GIRL after "The Notebook" from 2004.

Decent actor in a shit movie. Luthor has been in too many movies and the studio's really need to stop using him as a villain. While, not as bad as BvS, Spacey's Luthor only gave us a meme to remember. At the end of the day, Superman Returns was only worth the free rental coupon I used on it. At least Routh was one of the best scenes in Scott Pilgrim.

He was also a really bad ass villain on Chuck.
