It's time to crank your organs with Dr. Phibes, Junkions! Continuing our newly-dubbed Mr. Doctor series, we are getting abominable this truly unique piece of drive-in horror. The Abominable Dr. Phibes is as interesting as it is goofy and may have just inspired the likes of Seven and Saw.

(Note: Because we're serving up extra long episodes lately, the mp3's won't post here to Patreon. You can download the episode directly from iTunes and other podcatching services or click through the link to the FSR page. Thanks!)

The Abominable Influence of Dr. Phibes

One of the greatest aspects of binging on genre films both classic and contemporary is the discovery of interconnected threads of influence. Sure, you could pick through the trivia on IMDB to find this info or take one of your leather-bound volumes of Wikipedia down from the shelf, but that is nowhere near as satisfying as stumbling across the wellspring of homage in the wild.

Hannibal Montana

A few thoughts: 1. Ya'll forgot to mention the funniest running joke in the film: people keep calling Inspector Trout "Inspector Pike". Also the scene where Trout's partner gets chastised by the chief for taking the first car he saw had me rolling. 2. The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is a beautiful disjointed mess and I look forward to next week's episode 3. I think one Doctor I think would make a good episode if not for it not being really all that "junky" is The Cabinet of Dr. Calagari

Yeah, Dr. Parnassus is a movie I do not need to watch ahead of time because I have already watched it and did not like it. Besides, the behind the scenes struggles are more interesting than the movie itself.
