Possibly the most controverial patron-exclusive show we've ever done!

Cargill and I run down our Top 5 favorite movies from all January's going back to 2010. January is usually the dump month wherein the studios release the flicks in which they have the least confidence, however there are some quality gems released then as you'll hear.

Seriously though, this one went in an odd direction.

Enjoy!

I'm really happy that somebody else likes Gangster Squad.

I actually found Edge of Darkness boring when I saw it. I might have to rewatch it to see if my opinion still stands.

Sunshine was the movie where we realised that Chris Evans had real acting talent.

Denis McElwaine

Cellular was a very enjoyable Chris Evans film.

Kevin MacDonald

One aspect of Edge of Darkness I've always loved is the next movie on Mel Gibson's filmography is The Beaver & it tickles me to think of Gibson on set with Ray Winstone learning his accent for his next feature!

Kevin MacDonald

Interesting thing to come out of the confusion re: Cargill including Ex Machina on his list. Just as January is considered the dump month for movies in the States, over here in the UK, Jan-Feb is when we get all the Oscar films which tend to be released in the US during Nov-Dec so it's always a fantastic time to go to the movies (I'd say November tends to be our dump month).

Santos

Cellular doesn't really fit this list because it came out in 2004 and was released in September. That said I really, really like that movie and I hope that junkfood Cinema covers it someday.

I rewatched Edge of Darkness last night. I liked it a little better the second time around, but it is still a very slow paced and somber film, and certainly not the movie one expects when they think of a Mel Gibson lead revenge film.

Also, you guys mentioning Edge of Darkness made me think of another crime drama from the previous year that was also based on a BBC min-series called State of Play.

Santos

I loved Winstone's final scene in that movie. As soon as that smart ass remark is made you just know everyone is going to die.
