I guess it's not a big surprise, that adding things is faster then creating something new.
I found out that if I want to create variations for something specific, let's say clothing, it's never worth to make just one variation of one object.
In terms of work time needed (drawing and coding) this is the order:
0 Variation: Needs least amount of time
1 Variation: Needs more time then 0
2 Variations: Needs more time then 0 but less then 1
3 Variations: Same as 2.
4 Variations: Same as 2.
And so on...
Also it came to me, that it is for the best to implement variations as soon as I can. It's very code depending. Better to have set everything up right from the start instead of messing with it much later, cause I need to change the old code for it, of course.
To add a "zum Damenhaus" example:
When I do a new drawing and animation for Amanda and slaves, the slave one will need about 1 - 2 hours longer to be finished.
The question is: Is it worth it?
In "zum Damenhaus" it definitely is, because you have more slaves then Amandas, which means they should at least be looking different.
And in other games?
I would say Yes. Costumizing things as a whole is for a lot of people very fun. And since it's something I can create faster then, for example, a new game mechanic, the time needed for it is well spent.
To summarize: If I choose to do variations, then it should be more then 1! (so I have at least 3 different objects; meaning 3 different looking 'clothings')
