Benjamin got sick with a tumor. Jack gets appendicitis. And yet Rose is miraculously cured of her full-blown terminal cancer. Locke's paralysis inexplicably is cured AFTER a plane crash he survives along dozens of others, and his gunshot wound to the gut is magically fixed. So if the Island had "wanted" it, surely IT could fix lesser conditions, so there is another common thread beyond some entitiy or "the gods" as Bernard put it.

1. I mentioned Tunisia/Desert last week but you didn't seem to pick up on it in this. Do you remember seeing that anywhere else? Some thing about that desert scene you didn't seem to pick up on: Why would Ben be in the middle of the desert spread eagle? Why did he breathe cold breath as he awoke? He was wearing a Parker jacket that had the name halliwax on it. There's a clue in there, but it's unlikely you will pick up on it. I will mention it again at some point. Also, there was a Dharma Logo we have never seen before. 2. Its good that you at least looked at the ancient wall. Yes, they were Egyptian hieroglyphs and they stood for "Summon". We have seen hieroglyphs in the hatch when the timer went below zero. Those hieroglyphs stood for "Underworld", which means the mythical abode for the dead. Another afterlife reference, what could it mean? This episode had multiple afterlife references. Hurley talking to Charlie again and him mentioning heaven, Jack seeing Christian Shepherd... who was also on the island. This is the 4th time we have seen Christian on the island now. 3. Widmore - Nice little easter egg from long ago, was that the Widmore logo was on Henry Gales balloon from season 2. Take from that what you will. 4. So your theory is that the monster and Jacob are separate? You have been saying they are one and the same for some time now. Let's see where that goes. 5. Jacks becoming ill when the island heals people is interesting. He had his appendix removed, which reminds me of John Locke getting his Kidney removed. "I'd be dead if I still had a kidney there" he said. 6. Miles was giving Claire strange looks this episode. Why would Miles of all people be doing that? She then wonders off with her dead Dad into the jungle. 7. Jack removed a smoke detector.....? 8. Jack and Kate relationship was tragic. Its interesting when you realise that Jack became obsessive because his ex wife cheated on him and Kate was abused by her father Wayne, who its implied beat and raped her. You can see the fear in her face when Jack was shouting "Tell me!". It was all a recipe for disaster. Jack needs to let go. 9. Finally, this is where the 3rd and the final chapter of LOST really begins, in my humble opinion. Hold on to your butt because you've really gotta be on your toes from now on.
