I'd like to gently bring something up.

I completely understand the temptation to subscribe when an update drops, grab the new version, and then cancel until the next one. Especially with how many games go months, or even almost a year, between updates.

I release updates just about every month, with fixes, improvements, and smaller patches in between. I'm working on this game around 120 hours a week, and I'm here every day talking to you guys, showing you what I'm working on, answering questions, listening to feedback, creating tutorials and trying to make each update worth supporting.

So if you play an update and decide, "Nah, this isn't worth my money anymore," then absolutely cancel. I absolutely mean that. I don't expect anyone to financially support something they aren't enjoying.

But if you're enjoying the game, you think I'm doing a good job, and you already know you're probably coming back next month for the next update... I'd ask you to consider just staying subscribed.

The reason is pretty simple: consistent support is what allows me to build this into something bigger.

I'm trying to grow Patreon enough that this can become my full-time living, and eventually give me the resources to do even more with the game. When a big chunk of people subscribe for an update and immediately cancel afterward, it makes that growth incredibly difficult to predict, even when the game itself is growing. It also sort of gives me anxiety watching all the cancellations.

I'm not asking anyone to support me out of guilt. I'm asking because if you genuinely believe in what I'm building, staying subscribed is one of the biggest ways you can help me keep building it.

And in return, I'll keep doing my part.

I'll keep working my ass off. I'll keep communicating with you. I'll keep releasing regularly. I'll keep listening when something sucks and fixing it. And I'll never disappear for six months and come back acting like you're a nuisance for asking where the update is.

You're supporting the development of the game. I think that means you deserve to actually be treated like you're part of it.

Anyway, just something I wanted to put out there.

And seriously, to those of you who have stayed subscribed month after month: thank you. That stability means more to the future of this game than you probably realize. And side note, my PC is on it's way out. It completely crashes on me at least twice a day now. So I'm starting to save for a replacement and the bigger I can grow this Patreon, not only the faster can I replace it, but the better parts I can get, leading to faster renders. :)Thanks guys.

Follow other developers too, some well know and one thats not, all suffer the same strategy, the smaller one was actually quite despondent, his reason was lack of feedback from anyone, had members but no one commented, like at all, things are changing but as I said to him, cant change the nature of people, they'll come and go, good and bad, sometimes just have to truck on and have faith in yourself and the art you want to bring to life. End of day, there are always bad actors, impossible to stop it at all, frustration can stifle the mind as well, rambling now, think you get my jist lol

I think for me, it's easy to see some creators charging 20+/Month and not deliver for the best part of a year and then when it does drop it feels absolutely tiny, that ends up being a triple A title every 3 or so months, sometimes for what feels like an insulting low effort attempt, so I think a lot of people are very burned from zero response, minimum effort creators, at least here and I've only been subbed for a short while the cycle feels response, you feel involved. I'll stay subbed for a while long and see how it all goes. So far it looks great, love the bar work, always like that kind of thing! Hope it all goes well for you, I genuinely do.

Well, even if my Patreon doesn't grow, I'll still make this game. And no amount of foolishness or rude people will ever stop me from doing what I love. But it would sure make my life a lot easier if the Patreon does continue to grow. lol. I'm on a pretty good trajectory now. I honestly can't complain. I'm no where near making enough to call this a full time job yet but I'm definitely moving in that direction and a decent pace. That being said, I like to voice my opinions about things on the Patreon because a lot of people don't think about this sort of thing. They come in, pay $5, grab an update and bounce. With no thought really to the guy behind the curtain making the game living off ham sandwiches. lol. And no fault of theirs. They're just here to get a good game and move on. But if I say something, some of them will think about it. And they may not subscribe here, but at least now, it's in the back of their minds that for all those great games out there, there's a guy struggling financially while putting his heart into the work. Of course there's also some developers making BOAT loads of cash. Some deserving, some not. But that's like 1% of developers, if that.

Thanks Donald. It's going well. And yea, I've been putting out updates and being this communicative since I started this game almost a year ago now. Nothing on that front will change. It's just how I work.

That is exactly why I stay subscribed even though I should watch Out for every Penny myself, but I really appreciate your effort and devotion to this 👍

I have a simple policy on Crowdfunded Support for games: If the game looks cool I will usually start with a $5 subscription to check it out, and if it looks worthwhile and the creator is communicative, I will usually go to a higher Tier and stay there for at least 6 months to give the project room to breath. If after that time it looks like the creator is really working on things and giving a solid effort to progress, and hasn't broken my confidence in some way, then I leave it alone and let them cook. Even the big studio Triple A titles take YEARS to finish, so I either believe in a project or I don't. Now if a project turns into Always Waiting Another Month or something, then I will reassess. TLDR: If you have the funds to support a game in its development, give it 6 months to a year of support and then measure the progress before pulling the plug. Stability helps everyone.

The game is one of the best out there—worth every euro of the investment. But the real treasure is the Discord channel; there are some truly legendary people there. Just being in the channel makes it worth the price of admission.

Fomsie

Yeah, I'll be back on the Discord channel when I can remember my login info! My computer crashed and logged me out of everything, and I can't even remember what email I used to sign up for Discord with! LOL

Harvesting Corruption

I just deleted my history cache and cookies yesterday and had to do the same thing. lol

I have to admit that my favorite games/stories include Being a Dik, Step of Debauchery and then Harvesting Corruption with about 3-4 other story-games also with a naughty waitress, but I feel like I'm trying my hardest to contribute to Harvesting Corruption, although it's developing very slowly. I understand that and it's hard to dedicate myself to something like that full time so that your family and especially your health don't suffer, especially if you're doing it alone, you can't forget about your family and exercise, which is very important, and not spend so many hours doing it so that your body and soul don't suffer... but I don't know how long I'll be able to afford to contribute, I'm still trying, and what keeps me here is the creator's effort to communicate, which in other games where I contributed was the developers' silence that discouraged me from further contributions.

Harvesting Corruption

It's only developing slowly now because I'm still building all those HUGE code systems that will be used for the rest of the game. And all the locations. Within the next couple of updates, ALL of that stuff will be done forever, and updates will be MUCH faster and with WAY more STORY content. :) So get ready.

In order to counter this , my recommendation is to have an update once per month, fixed date. This way people stay and know what they are getting. The update does not have to be huge, but regular. This way you keep the ones that only join for the update. Becaust they too feel like they have been burnt by paying others month by month and nothing happens but "soon...". Just my two cents on this.

Harvesting Corruption

THey'll come. The systems have been too code heavy lately to put out anything monthly. too many new locations, new systems... Most people screwing their patreons are years into development and only need to put out some new scenes, but can't handle that for some reason. I'm still on the first 5 releases of the game and they've VERY code heavy... But soon, those systems will be done. And then it will just be content updates that will probably be once every 2 weeks.

At the moment I'm a freebier, but I have to say I am impressed with the quality so far. soon as finances allow you've definitely got my attention to upgrade to a paid membership here. you've got a very good game started here, so I definitely am interested in helping out even just a smallest bit to help out. could be a week or two, but you're on my radar for my next support jump.

Harvesting Corruption

That's the stuff I love to hear. Not that you'll be supporting, that's obviously great, but I love hearing that people are impressed and taking the game seriously.

StefAdler

That sounds great! But to optimize steady support and effort, the model I yhink wprks best is regular 1 x per month, and make it a bit longer than the two weeks version. These are just my thoughts.
