Eating is a natural and basic human behavior. But for some people, it’s also a source of stress and frustration.

Mindful eating is an approach to food that aims to bring awareness to our physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual experiences while eating.

It can be used in support of eating disorders, weight management, and other food-related issues.

Many of us use food to manage our emotions. We eat when we are bored or tired; we comfort ourselves with food when we are upset or lonely, and some of us eat because we're stressed out. These behaviors often lead us to not only overeat but also eat the wrong kinds of foods for our bodies. When we are not present with the act of eating, we may not even notice that we have eaten more or not enough of what our bodies need.

Mindful eating allows us to pay attention to what we are doing as we eat and how it makes us feel physically, mentally and emotionally. It gives us the opportunity to create a new relationship with food that honors our health and treats it as a celebration instead of something that controls us or is used as a source of comfort.
