Better Call Saul 5x6 | Watch Along

Comments

Oscar H

In another life Saul Goodman will go from directing films like Rocky to eventually Ocean's 11. And he'd have a dozen coca-cola and ubereats commercial directing credits under his belt

Dani

y'all understand Kim & Jimmy's relationship so well, it's so refreshing!!! i'm going to be frothing at the mouth for episode drops these next two months omg

Kara

i checked the episode list and there's no downtime lmfao, every pair of eps is amazing

Kara

I've been saying this too! The man was born to be a scrappy Hollywood director/producer.

Jorgalorg

I see Saul's directing career as being very Roger Corman

Dustin

God I live for your discussions when it comes to this show, they're always so damn good. Hats off to Maple for bullet pointing almost word for word exactly what Saul was going to do, lol.

Kara

Amazing ep, amazing reaction, amazing discussions. The pause was well worth it! 100% agree with everything. "Or we get married" gagged all of us for real, I didn't make the legal connection until I read comments. BCS is like my #2 all time show, higher than Breaking Bad even, mostly because of the writing. This scene sits on 5 seasons of development AND we know where Jimmy ends up too adding even more context, soooo good. btw Arianna I love those colors on you! warm autumnal slay 🥰

I don't think it's about stopping Kim from being abused, that might be the excuse he might use to absolve himself, but its about the money for Jimmy.

Chimp with a machine gun

Half way agree. Though I'd say it's more about sticking it to "the man" at this point in time (Kevin in this case). Jimmy doesn't really get a big payout out of scamming Mesa Verde like he would when he made a play to speed up the Sandpiper settlement with Irene.

I’m so jealous of people that are experiencing this run of episodes for the first time.

Kim and Jimmy are two of the best TV characters imo. The show is great and entertaining with Gus, Mike, Nacho, Lalo etc. .. but this dynamic elevates it to an all-time show for me.. oh and I was generally irritated by Chuck on the first watch.. he is definitely jealous and righteous but you can also start to have an understanding of his perspective on a re-watch while still knowing that he had a great hand in making Jimmy who he is as well.

Daymee

I said it before, but... Jimmy/Saul, Just go into directing, man! That's what he loves! Even if it's just commercial directing, he his so happy and more motivated directing actors than he is practicing law. Also, I've never seen the movie of The Little Prince (I think Gene Wilder is involved?) but I grew up on the book and the cartoon. Very wholesome stuff!

Kara

Chuck greatly benefits from the rewatch. At the time you don't know he dies at end of S3 + all the emotional fallout from that. Much easier to stomach Chuck at his worst knowing what happens.

Seamus Fobbs

I don't mind the pauses, it helps say what you're thinking instead of waiting/forgetting at the end, yall had really good analysis

MarisoL

I don't mind the pause, just give a heads up and is all good. Great discussion girls.

DinChild

Let's agree you haven't predicted how this is going to go :-) You just hit the top of the roller coaster. Enjoy!

Eh, how about we DON'T excuse innocents getting unalived just because Gus is the one pulling the trigger? How about that?

Joe Blankenship

"Fun" Fact: The actor playing Kevin's dad in that commercial is Jay Johnston who used to be on Odenkirk's HBO sketch show "Mr. Show with Bob and David". He was also on the "Sarah Silverman Program" and did the voice of Jimmy Pesto on "Bob's Burgers." And not long ago, he was arrested for storming the Capitol building on January 6th.... and yes, that last part's true. It's really weird. Not something you'd expect from a guy you would associate with people like David Cross, Bob Odenkirk, and Sarah Silverman...

Eric Wall

Mostly agree, although I think it this specific case it was just about the play. He gets a high from pulling these kinds of shenanigans. He pranks Howard with the prostitutes, but the high from that only lasts for a few minutes. You can see it kinda wear off on his face, and that’s when he decides to call the photographer. He needs a much bigger rush than throwing some rocks at Howard’s reputation.

Zane Platt

Yeah, they are great and, obviously don't mean anything by it but they are weird when it comes to Gus. They forget that Nacho only did what he did to Hector because he was saving his dad. He then did absolutely everything possible for Gus and still, Gus threatened to kill his dad. So it was super odd that they were acting like Nacho had done something wrong or was in the wrong for telling Mike that Gus is a very bad man (he is, he allowed children to get slaughtered)

Zane Platt

He is essentially a parent who abuses his kid, tells them they are a loser constantly and activey stifles their kids progress when they are starting to do well but who also turns around says 'I told you so' when the kid stumbles in life... McKean does an incredible job but Chuck was an awful human being with very little redeeming qualities.

Zane Platt

My read on Kim's choice in this episode is that she still wants to have it all. She wants to have the passionate, dangerous love that she has with Jimmy while maintaining a sense of distance and safety from his actions and influence on her. She will take ALMOST any avenue she can that allows that.

Pabb

Giving my few cents, Kim wanted to quit the plan because she felt Rich was onto something and by doing it like that Jimmy made them all see Kim being 200% against him and now all the doubt is destroyed. Which is genius.
