Ohhhh shit, this is what brought me here in the first place, perfect time for a rewatch!

Maple asked what would happen if a private throat-chopped an officer. Hard time, possibly death during wartime.

How exciting! the show that got me started on this channel waaay back was Band of Brothers, Maple hasn't seen it and its such a great show, definitely worth a repeat watch for Arianna (you are a good sport for doing it again!!!) Maple, keep your eyes peeled for a LOT of unknowns who later became BIG stars--including Andrew Scott (from Fleabag), Michael Fassbender (X-men), James McAvoy (X-men), Dominic Cooper, Tom Hardy (venom), Colin Hanks, Jimmy Fallon (talk show host), and Stephen Graham (peaky Blinders). Also, girls, this entire series is based on a book by Stephen Ambrose who interviewed the real guys who lived thru it ---its all true and these are real people. Just an amazing and often heartbreaking story. ♡

Sobel showed his true nature when he lied to get Winters in trouble: it wasn’t possible for him to have called and left a message, since there was no phone to call where Winters was living. Sobel was probably lucky to have been transferred, because that was a straight up falsehood, and he would have been shredded in a court-martial.

Getting flashbacks to when I had to crawl through a wet ditch on my belly after our NCO had taken a fresh piss into further upstream. Still, our Scottish NCO's were way nicer to us than the English lot. I was a dropout but honestly quite enjoyed the training.

Maple & Arianna, per your questions about filming: The show was filmed over the course of 8 to 10 months starting in April 2000. The first episode aired Sept. 9, 2001 (yes, 2 days before 9/11 and that tragedy only increased the emotional connection for many of us who watched episodes live). And if my memory serves, the planes carrying the men were mostly CGI actually, with only a couple of real planes available for the production to use.

i’m sorry to ask this again but it’s just driving me crazy lol. is there any new updates on aot? did you guys change your minds about watching it?

Otavio Rodrigues

I'm pretty excited for it too, but i think i saw a comment from them saying they will do it after adolescence (i could be wrong)

Camden Marr

yeah they said that, but they already posted all of that show. they said originally that it was replacing invincible but they did this show instead, so i was just looking for an update

PlasteredPear

Better Call Saul only has 2 weeks left at the current pace and Game of Thrones has a month left, could be after either of those shows or 47 weeks to watch all of AoT at the current pace seems like too much to commit to.

Camden Marr

i’m hoping for after one of those. i don’t think it’s too big of a commitment at all, got is a similar amount of episodes, and if you count breaking bad and better call saul as one (which it kinda is because they watched them back to back) it’s even more. and also it’s 20 minute episodes so they could watch more than 2/week if they want and it wouldn’t interfere with their normal schedule

Smapdi

I don't think it's been mentioned yet, but Damien Lewis, who plays Winters, was married to Helen McCrory, aka Polly.

David Perkins

so happy Maple is watching this. in my opinion band of brothers is the greatest tv mini series of all time in the same way that lotr is the greatest movie trilogy of all time. and, again in my opinion, Maples reaction to lotr is the best i've ever seen! not crapping on many of the other really great reactions it's just, for me at least, Maples tops the list. i have watched it maybe 3 or 4 times and it won't be long before i watch it again. i think it just helps me to see that there are still people who care in the world and that gives me hope!

Ludus Aurea

If you want to lose your composure watching old men cry there’s no better place to do it than the interviews with the airborne vets in this series. This is the best thing HBO ever did. Period.

Joe Blankenship

Here's the thing about Sobel... you have to remember that THEY WERE ON A BREAK!

PurportedGrey

I always love another rewatch of this perfect mini-series, I hope yall continue on into Masters of the Air!

SpXek

Yo, couldnt patreon reactors just upload the reaction mp4 including audio on like one drive? or is that against the terms.

I think the production got the one remaining C-47 that was still air worthy. I think it was formerly an air mail carrier that they converted for the production. They also used the same film locations that were used for Saving Private Ryan. I think the only time that they used a different set was the Belgium scenes. They used a hanger for those scenes.

The spaghetti scene reminds me of the CRBN training. Basically it's your first time out in the field and we were served a hot meal of chili mac, after running the confidence course. Nice and sweaty and full of chili mac, they'd send us into the CS chamber, which is a basically tear gas. And CS gas sticks to any moister on your skin. Choking and coughing sometimes guys would heave and freak out thinking they were puking blood. Sadists... Hahahahahahaha!

Jordan S.

Please tell me you guys spotted Simon Pegg!

Diegesis

at that point it's not TOS that it's against, but the actual law unfortunately :/

Diegesis

we posted the unedited watch alongs and those don't take manpower to edit. we have no one to edit AOT until adolescence is finished being edited. i hope that clears it up.

Camden Marr

alright sounds great. thanks for responding!

It's been almost twenty years since I went to basic. I swear to god I can still smell CS sometimes.

Gentle training makes for weak warfighters. War really sucks sometimes. It can be hard. Training needs to reflect that. It needs to be stressful.
