I think Jaime more so killed the king for his daddy... also did not find the link 😕

girls, those costumes are F'ing awesome--your cosplay game is over the top!!!

The show went so fucking downhill so fucking fast... Visceral anger for the last couple seasons. Absolute atrocity to ruin the character arcs the way they did

Oh God. I haven't watched this episode since it aired. I thought it was unfortunately the worst episode of the series. Let's see if that opinion still holds. This entire episode was the craziest character assassination of one of the best characters ever in Daenerys. They packed 3 seasons of character development in turning her into to Mad Queen into 3 episodes. Plus the insane decision with Bran. Hopefully Chad can show Maple and Arianna all of the crazy behind the scenes footage of the cast being shocked by how awful the ridiculous Season 8 script was and Emilia Clarke's reaction.

The downfall of GOT is interesting, with lots of blame to go around and the benefit of looking back. George R.R. Martin – On average, it took four years to write and publish each book, with some taking as little as two years. When HBO started filming in 2010, around the same time Martin began working on the still-unpublished Winds of Winter, it was anticipated that this book, along with A Dream of Spring, would be completed. At one point, Martin stated that "A Song of Ice and Fire" was intended to be a seven-book series. However, by the end of season six, the writers had run out of source material. Regardless of his schedule and heavy involvement in the series, he had enough time to finish the books, contributing to a better overall ending, or at least one that would be canon. Although Martin originally envisioned a love triangle between Arya Stark, Jon Snow, and Tyrion Lannister in ‘A Song of Ice and Fire,’ so who knows? Writer/Creator David Benioff – This is a mixed bag for me, as Benioff has written screenplays for some great films like The 25th Hour, Kite Runner, and Brothers. Also, keep in mind that Martin stepped down from writing episodes for the series after season four, so if you didn’t notice the difference, credit goes to the writers. In 2016, Benioff and Weiss approached HBO about ending the show. The team had been offered a Star Wars trilogy and was a hot commodity. Both HBO and Martin wanted more episodes, but the writing team wanted to end things. With all that in the background, the writers mailed it in, especially in season eight; it was clear they were just ready to go, as if they had given their two weeks’ notice. HBO – Yeah, they do a lot of great content, but they aren’t beyond being greedy fucks. It seems they didn’t take enough care to keep a winning team of Martin, Weiss, and Benioff together. Instead of giving them breaks to pursue other stuff, they helped torpedo the series. Remember, the Sopranos had extended breaks. For example, there was a 484-day hiatus between seasons three and four, and 456 days between seasons four and five. The break between seasons five and six was even longer, at 645 days. These breaks were significantly longer than the typical four-month hiatuses that most American TV shows took at the time. In addition, the cost per episode had almost doubled with a now-famous cast and bigger scenes. They determined the better business decision would be to expand the world with Martin, which has led to 10 spinoff shows in various stages. With everything going on and the margins on later seasons being less, I think they just decided to throw in the towel, too. How can you care and still approve these scripts? I’ve never seen the people behind a series give up so hard!

Kevin Landon

Ok, now you need to look up Bran was tricked by 3 eyed raven theory! Yes, the writing is awful, but this theory at least helps make sense of Bran and brings a huge twist to the show. It's the only way I can sleep at night, lmao

Kevin Landon

3 eyed raven planned everything, night king isn't a bad guy, 3 eyed raven is

Pros and cons of this episode PROS : + Tyrion finding Jaime and Cersei. + The shot of Dany and drogon behind her + The talk between Jon and Tyrion + Scene of Brienne changing Jaime's accomplishments was cute CONS : - Jon talks with gray worm, goes to Dany and somehow GW is there before him although he was busy executing prisoners? - Why would Jon LOUDLY discuss the possiblity of killing Dany with Tyrion, when unsullied are literally standing outside the wooden door with holes, that's 100% not soundproof. - Dany's dragons always were on their insticts to protect her, but suddenly drogon is like "Oh I've realized dear Jon that the complexity of my mother's psychological tendencies forced you to free the world of her tyrany and the symbol of this corruption the iron throne must burn, know I do not blame you Jon i blame society." Like come the fuck on, he should have burned Jon alive and that would at least be 6/10 scene, the visuals of him burning the throne though were amazing. - Davos tells GW to start his own house, HE CAN'T HAVE CHILDREN HAHAHAHA - GW tells Tyrion he can't speak but somehow he leads the meeting, and elects a king based on a sole factor STORY? Hello? Bran is a fking 3 eye raven nobody an empty husk that is stuck in the past and somehow he's supposed to be king because he has a cool story?! - Bran literally 5 minutes ago "I can never be lord of anything" and "I don't want anything really, I'm something else now" AND SUDDENY HE'S LIKE "Why do you think I came all this way" EXCUSE ME????? - Jon being sent to a night's watch, THERE IS NO WALL THERE IS NO NIGHT'S WATCH ANYMORE?! To end on a good note. I very much enjoyed rewatching this show with you it was great, sad it had to end with such a shit season, but I urge you to remember the greatness that were 4 first seasons not the end. Cute cosplays as always!

Xavier Chandler

This fumble pales in comparison to the butterfingers that was Avatar the last Airbender and Dragonball Evolution

Chris Bruneau

it says a lot that I enjoyed Chad's commentary video FAR more than the finale--and I have read all the books multiple times, so my love for these characters is quite strong! In a word: unsatisfying!

Elesh

I also have to say this though. You noticed how season 7 and 8 are short right? So basically the 2 writters had a Star Wars contract pending with huge money and just wanted to wrap up the show as fast as possible despite HBO saying "okay guys we can do 9 seasons, you can get as much budget as we can give you, let's do this properly". And the funny thing is the OUTRAGE of season 8 was so huge, Disney instantly pulled the plug on the contract and they basically haven't done anything since end of GOT. And in the end season 8 was so horrible it practicaly erased GOT from pop culture, no one talks about it anymore unlike Breaking bad.

2026-09-05 05:00 You know... I only watched this episode once so i only noticed this now but is the implication that john stays north with the wildlings?? hes not just taking them home?

Adam Vialpando

The problem with D&D is they are great at adapting other material or polishing others. But they are simply not cut out for doing their own thing. And the funny thing is for once HBO wasn't greedy and offered GoT all the money and time they wanted in order to properly wrap it up.

Weenful34

Waited for the screams of WTF!!!!! when they chose Bran, was not disappointed

Diegesis

yes. it would be too sad if he was stuck at the wall so they decided to have him defect up to the north territory.

Maulers unbridled rage on the episode’s are also so good and funny to watch

You guys spent about 6 months watching the show and you're already losing your shits on the progression of the show towards the finale. Now imagine having to experience that over the course of almost 10 years from 2011-2019. I personally didn't start the show until 2014 when s4 just released and by the time I caught up s5 was about to be released. I spent the better part of 5 years researching everything I knew about the show. I know of stories of people naming their kids/pets after characters and during the release of a new season that was all anyone talked about for two months straight. GoT was in the pop culture, it was in politics, it was in the workspace, you couldn't escape it even if you tried. Even Emilia Clarke got dragon tattoos on her arm to signify the impact of her character to her. What D.B Weiss and David Benioff did to the show is nothing short of a war crime to tv. Many people speculate the reason why GRRM won't release the last book of the series is because the GoT writers pigeoned him into a hole with not a lot of wiggle room to work with. That's one more thing to add on from the D.B losers I guess. The show is still so magnificient that despite the finale it is still arguably in the top 3 of greatest tv shows of all time. It is a piece of historical fiction like no other, amazing it all came out of the head of GRRM

Ryley

Gotta say it one last time, Dany was always a baddie. Lots of other problems in how the show wraps up. Bran is probably my biggest peeve. But I was suspicious of Dany in Season 1, and had her pegged by Season 2. Yes yes, she's very concerned about liberating slaves and what not, the fact it grows her power is just a happy coincidence. And by the end of season 6 it ought to be pretty clear honestly. Half her army are sexually mutilated slaves who she freed (but only after buying them) and told to come with her to liberate other slaves; the other half of her army is a horde of barbarians who's entire culture boils down to raiding villages, killing the men, raping the women, and taking any survivors as slaves, who they often sell off to the people she liberated those other slaves from. And even in Season 1 she's all in ride or die with Khal Drogo leading those people to Westeros. Because it gets her the Iron Throne. Real history is chock full of the same kind of character, preaching liberation for the masses as a means to acquire power, but they'll ruthlessly butcher anyone who gets in the way that real goal.

Miguel

The only good scene in this episode that I liked was with Dany walking out of the burned down red keep and Drogon rising behind her. Not just because obviously its cool looking, but it was actually a call back to season 1. Viserys when throwing his tantrums would always tell Dany "You dont want to wake the dragon do you!!" This was Dany showing that the dragon had been woken in her. There was no human restraint left. She was the predator and everything now was her prey.

Ryley

The next question is: Do they start House of the Dragon, given how not on board they were with the Auntie-Nephew stuff?

FW27

Best reaction to this episode 😭

HonkyPete

please yes, the anger and confusion would be amazing

MarisoL

I love Jon but either make him king or have him killed by the dragon or survive the burn and show his true Targaryen or anything other than that. Also Yara doesn't want to be independent like Sansa? I hate that Tyron help decide the whole thing when he is a "prisoner". Sigh 😕

iampanax

I'm trying to remember and I'm pretty sure the answer to why they did it like this was because the show creators wanted to subvert expectations. Fans were correctly guessing future plot points in communities so the show creators sacrificed good writing to just surprise people with nonsense.

sablo

Can you please lower Maples microphone? i have to throw off my headset everytime she yells

Leo

House of the dragon is so refreshing in a good way, compared to the absolute steaming pile of dogshit you just saw in season 8

Chris Thompson

I think it would be a good idea to give House of the Dragon at least another season before watching, give it time to get on its feet, and yourselves a break from disappointing Westeros-related nonsense. It’s not terrible, just utterly mediocre and not a fun way to follow up that whole season 8 atrocity. And besides you really don’t get that much of interest as far as continuity is concerned. Throughout the first season you get maybe five actual characters and a bunch of non-entities by way of supporting cast. And the show itself is too busy being faithful to a fictional historical piece of non-fiction that it forgets that it’s a dramatic, fantasy show. It’s insane that they cared so much about that one book at the expense of character, story, drama, substance and everything else that makes for compelling TV.

Diegesis

I can be more aggressive with the limitors to help with the yelling.

Athasin

Man it's been one hell of a ride!

Pyt

"And who has a better story than Bran, he who was left out of an entire season of the show because the writers had no idea what to do with him, and clearly still dont." I hadn't watched any of season 8 since it aired and man and its worse than I remembered. The best thing that came from this season is that after D.B. Weiss and David Benioff lit this dumpster fire and sailed it down the river is it was to hard to ignore and they were fired from running the Star Wars franchise.

Athasin

So basically Bran was evil this whole time and engineered everything (telling Sam to tell Jon about his true heritage) so that he could become King of the South, his sister the Queen of the North, and the true King of Westeros is stripped of his titles and House. That's my explanation and I'm sticking to it.

Pyt

Not at all. You can ignore the live action Dragon Ball and Avatar: TLA movies and still watch the shows and miss nothing, they didn't manage to completely ruin the legacy the shows built. Kids today still watch and talk about those shows and enjoy them and everyone knows who Goku and Ang are. Seasons 7 and 8 of GoT pretty much removed the series from the public consciousness, there are very few people that will watch this show, finish it, and then years down the line will say "I'm going to rewatch GoT."

f hf

I love how Tyrion was a criminal according to Grey Worm but he let him just hijack the last meeting and nominate Bran haha

MarisoL

Should have zoomed in to his face with blue eyes and then cut to black. THE END lol

Joe Blankenship

Remember how good this show was cooking in seasons 3, 4, and 5? Shame what they did to it. George R. R. Martin should've finished those books.

Daniel Bjork

Lmao Arianna is basically just doing an impression of me when I watched this episode live

ZitherManifesto

Fair warning about House of Dragon: It is faster-paced than the start of Game of Thrones with time jumps. So some of the actors will change at some point because they needed to age. It doesn't distract from the show, and it's much better than the last two seasons of Game of Thrones.

Athasin

That would've been a sick ending!

Inisius

How is Bran not the best pick for King? He literally knows everything that has happened and is happening. Pretty decent building blocks if you ask me. Bran can't have children because he broke his spine so his pecker doesn't work. And Jon gets to go north where names don't matter. He will be happiest there. These last 2 reactions have been so unbearable to watch I had to turn them off. Entire time nothing but complaining. I understand they weren't good episodes but they were complaining before anything even happened!

Adam Vialpando

First off th reason he was chosen is stupid. And the fact he was chosen by Tyrion despite him being a prisoner was stupid. And Bran barely cares about anything and overall is just a poor choice of king from a practical and a narrative standpont

Adam Vialpando

Yeah. The problem with these last 2 seasons is that it akes it hard to care about plotlines introduced earlier because now we know it doesn't have a satisfying payoff. So, why should we care?

Adam Vialpando

I prefer book Tyrion because after he kills Tywin he basically starts becoming much more ruthless and uncaring of innocent lives. This is because the of plot points in the book that reveal his first wife was truly innocent and Tywin made him complicit in breaking her. And Jaime knew and lied about it. This leads to the bond between brothers breaking and is the reason Tyrion goes to see Tywin in the first place. It's speculated that ths was changed both to keep the fan-favorite Tyrion firmly as a good guy and to preserve the wholesom but boring brotherly bond between Tyrion and Jaime. I suggest watching a video about the Tysha conspiracy to get more in-depth look. One of the major theories for book readers is that Tyrion is going to be the one to push Daenerys towards her darker impulses since she has been much more morally grey in the books. Heck, every character is more morally grey in the books.

Adam Vialpando

I will never get over the fact they made Bronn Master of Coin, the guy who didn't even know how loans worked. If that's not the perfect example of the incompetence in the writer's room. The fact this got nominated for best writing at the Emmys confounds me.

f hf

The terrible writing led them to complain lol. It wasn't just the last 2 episodes that were bad

Alicia Hauskins

I don't think it would have mattered. GRRM told D&D how he wanted the story to end. They were just rushing the ending of the show so they could do star wars or whatever.

PurportedGrey

With Bronn, it’s not just the Master of Coin appointment that bothers me—it’s making him the Lord Paramount of the Reach that I find completely ridiculous. Sure, give him a noble marriage and maybe elevate him to a prominent house, like the Hightowers, Swanns, Reynes, Dustins, Umbers, and Blackwoods. That would make sense. But to name him Lord Paramount? No matter how capable or ruthless he is, the established houses of the Reach—like the Hightowers, Oakhearts, and Rowans—who are either descended from or married into the Gardener line, already had issues with the Tyrells rising to power from stewards. They certainly wouldn’t tolerate someone like Bronn. He wouldn’t last five years in that position. Also you're 100% right about the Emmys.

Adam Vialpando

They should have given him The Twins. It's vacant and less people would raise a fuss since everyone hated the Freys even before they broke guest right. Plus it would play into what Tyrion said. "If you are tempted to betray me, whatever price they pay I'll double it". And the Twins is basically two castles. Plus it would also make Bronn very rich for doing very little.

PurportedGrey

I'm about 95% sure the ending of the books will differ significantly from the show's ending, and here’s why: 1. George has said he gave the showrunners a detailed outline of major plot points and character arcs—essentially a guide to how the story would end. However, after stepping away from active involvement following Season 4 (meaning he was no longer writing major episodes or on set), he noted that the show began deviating more and more from that outline and from the setup in A Dance with Dragons. The only characters he confirmed having definitive endings for were Bran, but it will make alot more sense why he becomes the new king. 2. Shortly after the final season aired, George wrote a blog post that reinforced this. He mentioned that the show had stopped following the roadmap he provided. He also stated that nearly every character in the books would have a different path and ending than in the show, with only a few having similar—though still distinct—resolutions. As for the remaining 5% doubt: it’s possible George is saying this to deflect backlash from the show’s controversial ending. But while he's certainly inconsistent with his writing pace and timeline, I’ve never seen evidence that he lies. Just look at his reaction to House of the Dragon Season 2—when the writers stopped listening to his input, he publicly criticized the changes, going nearly scorched earth over how far they deviated from his vision.

Joe Blankenship

I think there's only about a 5% chance of him finishing those books.

PurportedGrey

That first season of House of the Dragon really brought me back in. But Season 2 gave off those Game of Thrones Season 6/7 vibes—like you said, not terrible, just kind of mediocre. What really pulls me out, though, is the amount of questionable lore they're throwing in. For example, suddenly Aegon the Conqueror has a sister or cousin who married into House Darklyn? Or they claim Dark Sister was first wielded by Visenya, which doesn't really add up. Visenya was born at the end of the Bleeding Years—a century proceeding the Doom of Valyria—so the Targaryens would’ve had Dark Sister for at least a couple of centuries before she ever picked it up. Are we really supposed to believe that a Valyrian steel sword just sat on a mantelpiece, unused, for generations until Visenya the Warrior Queen decided the super rare family heirloom would make a nice weapon to wield for their Conques? It’s nitpicky, sure, but stuff like that breaks immersion. And once that happens, you start noticing more cracks in the story and world-building. You just don’t get that feeling when reading George’s work.

PurportedGrey

I guess the show runners kinda forgot to be consistent with their characters motivations.😉

PurportedGrey

Nah, that anger and confusion really starts in Season 2. Season 1 was more on par with Game of Thrones Season 1/4—maybe one or two minor issues, but overall it absolutely knocked it out of the park.

PurportedGrey

Sadly, based on what George has said, Bran is the only character whose ending D&D got right—just not the way he gets there, from everything I’ve read and heard.

PurportedGrey

Yeah, I got the same impression! Why would the Night’s Watch even be needed anymore? The Wall is broken, and from what we saw, pretty much everyone accepts or at least tolerates the Free Folk now. The only satisfying takeaway for me is the idea that Jon—(nerd rage incoming I'm not calling him Aegon; they really messed up naming him after his own damn brother)—goes beyond the Wall and starts building a new kind of society with them.

PurportedGrey

They adapated the 3 Body Problem series for Netflix.

PurportedGrey

I genuinely would love to see yall watch a Glidus S8 Pisstake like yall did with Twilight and the Gabi video.

Jeff Moen

I like to pretend that 6x10 The Winds of Winter is the real series finale, because it’s the best episode of the series, and it’s really the last one before things started to go downhill. The show may not have gone all the way off the rails until midway through season 8, but even season 7 has its problems. The pacing is a big issue, and it still blows my mind that they felt they needed to have two shortened seasons when they surely could have gotten as many episodes as they wanted to finish the story given that it’s the most successful show in HBO history. Season 7 is just too rushed, everyone’s running all around, journeys that are supposed to take weeks or months happen instantaneously, and that mirrors how they rush the character development. You guys hit the nail on the head that they completely failed to make the Jon-Daenerys love story believable. Ignoring the incest aspect (which for Targaryens would have a been a non-issue), the writers just assume that the audience wants them to get together, and they don’t spend any time trying to earn it, they just have Tyrion say it and that’s that. By the time we get to season 8, it’s too late to stop the runaway train. I will say that out of all the story decisions they made, the biggest one, Daenerys becoming evil and Jon killing her, is the one I have the least amount of problems with, *in theory.* If they had had a full season to develop her becoming bitter and bloodthirsty etc., I think it could have worked, but to have her go from hero to villain in the span of one episode is just insulting to the viewers. What they should have done was have them defeat the White Walkers at the end of season 7 and then spend all of season 8 ostensibly preparing to take on Cersei but really setting up Daenerys vs. the Starks as the real battle. It would have been good symmetry to the backstory of the Mad King killing Ned’s father and brother, and most importantly they could have had Sansa play a bigger role in actually challenging Daenerys. All we get is her making it clear she doesn’t like her, but Sansa doesn’t really do anything about it, other than telling Tyrion the truth about Jon’s parentage. Sansa outsmarted Littlefinger, who was one of the biggest schemers on the show, so she definitely could have come up with a more thought-out plan to stop Daenerys. Tyrion’s arc in season 8 is also terrible. He never would have betrayed Varys, not after Varys made the point over and over that his loyalties were to the realm and he couldn’t stick his neck out to save Ned but then he stuck his neck out to save Tyrion! And as far as Bran becoming king, it makes no sense. “Who among us has a better story…” than the kid whose story got so boring they wrote him out of the show for an entire season. I guess maybe it could have worked, somehow, if they hadn’t gone to such lengths to let us know that he’s not really Brandon Stark anymore and is not really a person and doesn’t want anything. And also just the fact that they’ve spent eight seasons showing us how bloody and terrible the wars over the throne are, that “you win or you die” etc., and then we’re just supposed to believe that they’re going to forget all that and calmly vote for some random kid.

Travis

I know the final season of Thrones gives everybody a bad taste in their mouths but I do still hope you guys watch House of The Dragon. It's worth a watch in my opinion.

Travis

What I absolutely hate about Bran being king is him saying "why do you think I came all this way" like it was his plan all along when he never gave a single notion that would even remotely be a possibility.

Travis

100% agree

Kevin Landon

are you kidding? Theyve complained about the incest more than anything and HOD is 90% incest. I love these 2, but theres no way im gonna watch them winge about inappropriate relationships throughout HOD

Travis

I guess I would just hope that they can understand that it's a TV show in a fantasy world where there are very unrealistic things. Some being awesome like dragons and some that are weird as fuck but again it's just a fantasy TV show and isn't actually incest relationships we are watching. But maybe I'm the only one that just kinda laughs at it and looks past it and not let it bother me. Also Thrones did show a man rape his sister over their dead son's body so it isn't that much of a big step to HOTD from Thrones lol.

Athasin

They'll get over it just like they've embraced crime in the Sopranos.

Athasin

Nah they'll love how slow paced HotD is because they genuinely love talking about the relationships family members in the shows they watch (i.e. Walt & Skylar in Breaking Bad, Jimmy and his brother in Better Call Saul, Tony and his mother in the Sopranos), and the more action episodes have the less they tend to have discussions about them.

Athasin

The Pretty Little Liars method.

Athasin

He wouldn't survive the burn. Remember when the white walkers first showed up at Castle Black? Jon grabbed the lantern from Commander Mormont, burned his hand, and threw it at them... only Dany was immune to fire. It was a her thing not a Targaryen thing.

Athasin

Season 2 of HotD does the opposite of what Season 7 and 8 of GoT does, instead of rushing things, it slows things down.

T.wiley

Damn the finale really wasn't as bad as you guys made out lol. Each to his own though

XaMas Koloss

Even if the 8 season doesn't have the best end, I find your reaction really exaggerated. For me the end sounds logical ... Bran becomes king is good. He knows every story, every mistake that was made. Bran does not make an impulsive decision like Cersei and Daenerys do. Apparently he doesn't feel any real emotions that can strongly influence him. At the scene where Tyrion says "The world needs a place for bastards and cripples" he means metaphorically and not as it is said word for word but that could have been thought of. Season 8 was unfortunately rushed but I didn't find episode 6 bad but 4 and 5. The development of Daenerys is not traceable. It's like a switch was flipped in season 7, causing it to go crazy. Btw Bran cant have children because he fk DOWN HIS WAIST PARALYZED ! The long Winters where made by the Nightking also. He is gone Winter is normal now. Grey Worm is mad because his freaking world was destroyed within month.

Mathew Hill

“What’s west of Westeros? Nobody knows”, Arya says, “It’s where all the maps end.” Bran the broken, the three eyed raven, sits beside her, smizing. He knows; he’s just not saying.

Pabb

Lol I wish they embraced specificity of Mr.Robot

Travis

Oh me too. I'm still upset that they stopped watching Mr. Robot lol

Matilda Beekay

God I feel so vindicated watching this reaction, they really fucked the whole show and it's so annoying because the books are so great and the show just erased it from the zeitgeist for a good long while.

Jonathan Blaze

Congrats on finishing the show. Terrible ending. The Westeros I've seen on this show should have ended with Tyrion, Davos and Jon being executed for war crimes by the people. As far as the people know, they were with Daenerys before, during and immediately after the destruction of KL. Sansa would be killed by someone to take the north from her. She has zero protection with no, Arya, Brieanne or husband or Jon. I could go on and on but, still the greatest show ever, imo, with a bad ending. On to some HOTD!

Jon Snow’s Mange

Dany was always the villain of the story (in the books, I feel like it’s especially obvious it’s her “villain origin story”) but it really needed 10 seasons to get to that point, not 1 😭😭😭

Joao

I don’t know what I hate more, the ending or you yelling at the screen through every every scene, I have some big decisions made for this season, but you knowing the season was not liked, didn’t help you because you decide to see the worst in every even before a scene was finished … still love you and support you, but I hope this kind of reaction won’t happen again. Or hopefully you will be more up to date when a series comes out in the future

Justin Dodge

worst part of this video is 30 mins at the end of "what coulda been"

Anna J

God I hated the season 8. So bad, so cringey, so poorly written. Those 2 dumbasses of the writers were so up their own asses thinking "subverting expectations" would be a good idea for main hero characters and FOR THE SHOW FINAL SEASON. Like they literally fucked up Jaime, Jon, Arya, Varys, Tyrion simply because they were fan favorites and people kinda knew what their end goal is, but that doesn't mean we DON'T WANT TO SEE IT HAPPEN. But they hated Jon more than anyone. Book Jon was very smart, cunning and ambitious. He was definitely not the 100% good and naive guy they made him from like season 5 onwards, book Jon was absolutely willing to scheme and lie to reach a goal. Not to mention he VERY much wants glory and to be a lord. He was actually killed in the books because he wanted to march with the wildlings and the night watch on Winterfell to save Arya ( in the books Littlefinger marries a fake "Arya" to Ramsey instead). He would 100% want the throne if he found out who his parents were.

Dan Badour

Ugh... the way they butchered the last 2 seasons... I like the IDEA of Dany's descent into madness, but neither it nor most of the other character arc endings were earned. They ran out of source material and rushed the shit out of it. It needed another 2 seasons to properly develop the arcs and story, and the writing needed SOOO much more care.

Aj

I don't even think 6x10 is that good. Most overrated episode in the series, in my opinion, alongside 6x9. Things went downhill long before then.

Aj

House of the Dragon is just more of the same. Mediocre television.

Leo

Well thats your opinion, so far they seem to love it just as much as i did :)

BigAL96_

You are preaching the GOOD WORD! They never should have been told that. You can not like how certain things happen, but it was perfectly logical to see how it happened.

BigAL96_

46:00 Not gonna lie i stopped here. The complaining was too much.

Aj

Why are you so pressed on them shittin on something that deserves to be shat on. It's GOD-AWFUL TV and they're right about pretty much everything they complain about.

Aj

Yes, it is. In fact, it's worse.

T.wiley

I guess I'll just roll over then and except defeat lol. You're smart I'm dumb, you're big I'm little, you're right I'm wrong and there's nothing I can do about it

LucasHolliday

It's too bad that you had a whole dude in yall ear with his whole opinion in your mind and surely others as well BEFORE you finished this up. Saying that no one influenced your opinion on this is in no way possible. And the complaints that were often louder than the show and not always well informed or accurate got to me the most. I dig your opinions and usual attention to detail, that's part of why I watch Diegesis, and I do agree that moments in the overall writing didn't go over well, especially as this episode ends. It makes sense to be disappointed from one angle, but for me to also make sense out of many of the choices made in this show is no less wrong, sorry. And on top of all that, your boy's take on this and his corrections only work to some degree, until they fall apart. If Tyrions plotline should end in s4, then GRRM should not have written him to continue to Essos. It is also there in the books that we see his own fall into some form of madness and giving up. The show aludes to this, but most miss it because of what comes later, which is admittedly bad writing regarding the plans against Cersei. But I do think all of your opinions on this show are influenced by those around you, and therefore you made it sound like you suffered through the last season...you didn't. People like myself who sat and waited from week to week and year to year to see what would happen next and where this story we loved was gonna go, especially after it surpassed the source material, WE suffered through this. We had to make the best of a less than satisfactory ending. We had to debate amongst each other and unfortunately, we did it way too loud, so that generations to watch after like you two would come in just a little bit tainted and askew about what you were watching. Much respect to you, I'm still a fan, but I had to throw in my perspective.

It was a bad last 2 seasons. It was obviously a bad last 2 seasons watching them unfold. Its still, even today, a bad last 2 seasons. I watched the show week to week and year to year from s3 on. And it was obviously a bad 2 seasons from episode to episode. The fact that people can watch it today and still see it as bad isn't the fault of people who were too loud in their dislike. I've seen too many people watch and love the Star Wars prequels today for that to be true. And trust me, waiting or binging, the suffering is the same. So don't take away from them just because they didn't have to wait years for the misery to end. We at least had weekly videos and other viewers to share in and cope with our problems with the series. We had compilations of the actors "hinting" to us to make us feel better. Sure, those videos are still out there, but they aren't at the top of the feed like they were when the seasons aired. Also, just because you mentioned it...it'd have been fine to cut Tyrion from the plot. Its an adaptation that had already made huge cuts in characters that will likely be important later. (Lady Stoneheart, Aegon, Victarion, and I'll toss in House Reed to name a few). So to specifically call out this change as being not in line with GRRMs books is a bit...well...irrelevant. The video essay wasn't advice on keeping with the books but about what the show could have done to be a better version of itself.

Fair enough. It is an opinion held by most to find little to enjoy out of the last 2 seasons. Definitely no short supply of reasons for that. Many plotlines, subplots and the dialogue quality deviate with a good number of the main characters. And there are more than enough changes made from book to screen or moments/characters detailed in the source material that are omitted from the adaptation. The books were mentioned because this appeared to be an adaptation interpreting the vision of Martin. The skeleton of the plot that the creators worked out based on what they were told is something that they dropped the ball on as they were too focused on other endeavors. The major points seem to be in the show, and that is much of the problem many people have, disagreeing with Dany's turn most of all, or Bran's election, even though it's likely GRRM wanted those things in his original plot, those points were likely not original to the creators. Overall, everyone dropped the ball. D&D the most, but if the network truly did offer more episodes as they later claimed after the show was over and the ending was poorly received, then they also failed by approving what was presented to them. They cancel good series with decent fanbases all the time just because one doesn't gain the insane viewership that others do, they could have done the same with this. Instead of delay they allowed for divisiveness.

Fans were "done dirty" by the showrunners (David Benioff and D.B. Weiss) .. During Season 7 Production (and when the season originally aired on HBO), the showrunners were trying to negotiate a lucrative production deal with Netflix, and they were in the running to write/direct a Star Wars film (for Disney) .. By Season 7, the showrunners were "done" with Game of Thrones and wanted to transition to other creative projects (e.g., they actually drafted a script based on a hypothetical-concept of what America would be if the Confederates had won the Civil War. TRUE STORY) .. The showrunners' ambitions & their reluctance to produce Seasons 9 - 11 is WHY Seasons 7 & 8 felt rushed, because they wanted to "land the plane" as soon as possible (in 2018), so they could become "Producer/Writer - Free Agents" .. As Fans angrily watch Seasons 7 and (especially the ending of Season 8, just know that HBO AND George RR Martin wanted AT LEAST TWO MORE SEASONS. Most of the actors were loyal to Benioff & Weiss, and didn't want to work with any other showrunners .. which is so short-sighted because other than Emilia Clarke, No Other Actors on this show has had any acting-roles of significance (Post Game-of-Thrones) .. It's just so frustrating that the world of Dorne was not explored, and the fates of Daenerys, Jaime, AND Cerei were butchered !!! The Ending of Season 8 is simply ILLOGICAL simply because Two Showrunners had succumbed to Greed & let their Egos tarnish a Great Series (prior to Season 7) .. I was One of the people who signed an online petition (in 2019) requesting Season 8 to be re-written by HBO !! I signed it then & I would sign it again in 2025 !!!

LMAO seems like all the season 8 defenders came out their rock to defend this sloppy written final season with all their might in the comment section. never seen this amount of people think it was actually good certainly interesting

for me it was always the last episode only that ruined it. so you'd see me in 8x5 defending it i guess but, i just think the whole part after jon killed danny is what ruined the ending. everything up to that i was fine with.

Heilige Taube

You just been bran'd hows it feel? lmao dumb ending fr

I feel very differently about a lot of the earlier episodes and even seasons after having watched the whole show than I did while it was still coming out. Because while I do think there is a noticeable drop in quality over the course of the show no matter how you slice it, when you're watching it for the first time, you might still have hope that storylines and characters arcs will come together and have a satisfying conclusion. It's only after the fact that you realize that no, that didn't happen, and so on a rewatch, a lot of what they set up in terms of character development and plotlines from earlier seasons feels so pointless.
