This is IMO the most emotional of the series thus far, it is the breaking point for them and the audience, too.

Also, Arianna I like your shirt, in honor of your pup, that's really nice!

Medics were designated as protected individuals under the Geneva Conventions. Kinda like when you saw the Chaplin walking around praying for the dead/wounded.

If it helps, I've created the following breakdown to help weigh the pros and cons around whether it's appropriate to simp for Spiers: Pros: He's a dreamboat. Cons: He's possibly a war criminal. Conclusion: It really depends on how much work the word "possibly" is doing for you in this scenario.

I said it in another comment but spiers probably committed war crimes and I don't give a single solitary shit, fuck those nazis. Dumbass bitchass fascistass pieces of human garbage. Spiers is the fucking man.

Owen

Also I appreciate your samurai cop pfp

Maple's comment about medics makes me think they'd love watching that Andrew Garfield movie "Hacksaw Ridge" (2016).

The medics are NOT the ones doing religious services. Those are chaplains. They are officers, and are actual clergymen who join the military to perform services for the servicemembers. They also used to wear the red cross that medics wore. No one wears them anymore, and medics have carried rifles now for decades.

I'm with you about the Nazis being "Dumbass bitchass fascistass pieces of human garbage" but the POW he killed were just normal German soldiers, shit 1 was an American born soldier whos family fell for the propaganda of restoring the once great German state and sent him to fight for the Fatherland, not the SS who were the actual military Nazis. Some normal soldiers probably believed in "the cause" but a majority of the the military were just doing their jobs as soldiers following commands to attack and defend areas and had nothing to do with the crimes against humanity the Nazis/SS were performing all over Western and Eastern Europe.

Just like much of the show, Speirs’ actual charge was much longer and even crazier than what was depicted — it’s incredible how much he accomplished during his military career. He was truly a real-life action hero (who did a little bit of war crimes). Also, Dyke has an interesting real-life story. He successfully defended a position and was wounded during it, either in Normandy or Holland, so he wasn’t a complete failure. During the attack on Foy, he was actually wounded during the charge without realizing it, which explains why he was so out of it and needed Speirs to take over. Personally, based on everything I’ve seen and read, I think Dyke was a poor commander overall even if he had 1 or 2 successes that lead to him taking over Easy. He seems to have received favorable reports and been promoted due to connections higher up (like it was mentioned in the episode by Lip). Maybe that earlier defense was just a fluke, and the rest of his time with Easy Company ultimately revealed his true capability as a leader, because all of the guys from Easy had alot to say about him, and it cant just be all made up because nearly every story about him correlates.

There were no "normal German soldiers", they were nazis. Full stop. You don't get to participate in the most brutal regime on earth and participate in the invasion of multiple foreign countries and then claim to be "just a soldier." Fuck that.

Alex Nowak

Yes, and focusing them was considered bad and a war crime I believe.
