I think my favourite anecdote about this movie sums it up perfectly. Dennis Hopper's son asked him why he'd done the movie, and he replied "So you can have shoes" and his son replied "Dad, I don't need shoes that badly"

Be me, be 7 years old, have my friends show up at my door saying one of their moms rented the Super Mario Movie. I beg my mom and dad to let me sleep over my friends house so we watch it. Imagine the complete silence as we all sat and watched it. We didn't know who Daisy was, Mario was way older than Luigi, Peach is never mentioned, the cast is all humans. Goomba's aren't mushrooms, Yoshi is a baby velociraptor, there is a weird overt sexual tension to the movie. They use special boots to jump, they use guns, Bob-Bombs are tiny windup toys. It fucking sucked then, and it sucks now. Oh also Super Mario World came out in 1991, they could have copied that but here we are. Bob Hoskins was a very well respected actor, he was 51 years old when this movie came out Bobs most famous role was probably Who Framed Roger Rabbit, for American audiences. John Leguizamo was 33 years old at the time this released so it does give the impression that they aren't brothers but some how Mario adopted Luigi. John Leguizamo also starred in Carlito's Way the same year which many people consider a spiritual successor to Scarface. Dont worry, no one understands how this movie happened. Also John Wick is my favorite action movie ever but John Wick 2 and John Wick 3 kind of fucked uo it all up for me. John Wick, its 10mintues of set up and then you are just in it and I didnt need to think or even try to understand. John Wick 2 and 3 went out of their way to explain something I didnt need or even want explained.

She said "Tv on a Tv, that's how you know your in the hood" lol I've lived like that but where I live it's more "you might be a redneck if" you use your broken tv as the stand for the new tv. Those old big tvs were so heavy. I had a broken one for years because It was so hard to move.

This and Street Fighter were definitely why video game movies weren't done again for a long time. Though it definitely becomes so bad its good, I would recommend Street Fighter for the bad movie channel.

This was a great watch along, even if not the absolute, most totally faithful Mario movie... Also, pink Power Ranger forever!
