James Germain

wait a minut i thought u guys were'nt feelin this show lol

Patrick

You guys are doing tons of great TV lately. Any chance we’ll eventually see some Veronica Mars?

Owen

Damn I don't know how I feel about this lol the show has not aged super well in a lot of ways. I still love it but there's some rough patches. I appreciate you guys giving it a second try!

Trevor Go

This frees up my Fridays for a while

TheTreeMeister

Firefly? Eh. If yall are doing short series’, PLEASE have them watch Joe Pera Talks to You. It’s such a funny, pleasant vibe, and there’s only about 30 11-minute episodes. It’s on Hulu.

Chris Thompson

Oh it WAS Diegesis that started then quit Firefly a while back? Thought I was getting my reactors mixed up. Love the show and all, but it does seem like a random choice either way. Was kinda getting ready for another long runner like GoT or Saul.

Ian Forbes

The crazier thing about the amount of world building in the pilot episode is that Fox’s insane order of airing the episodes had the next episode (Train Job) as the first episode they aired and this pilot episode was like #10 or #11. Looking forward to your reactions!

Joe Stüll

I’m excited to revisit this one.

Smapdi

Yes...yes...you're all one step closer to Farscape and you don't even know it. Beloved, but underwatched sci-fi television series? Check An appreciation of media that is off-kilter and weird? Check An established love of muppets? Check and check Everything is pulling you towards the same destination: 4 seasons and a mini series of a show that maybe 5 people on patreon will actually give two shits about...

Christophe

Yeah I thought so too.... And honestly, I get it, I have watched it before and I do like it, but I completely get if someone doesn't and I also don't understand the huge hype cult status around it, like it's not THAT great.

Ryley

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Diegesis

Lol I was a big Farscape kid myself

Smapdi

It's really a special thing. It's also extremely niche so I'm not holding my breath, either. Excited to rewatch Firefly!

Chris Bruneau

"I'll kill a man in a fair fight. OR if I think he's gonna start a fair fight." -- Jayne this is going to be awesome!!!!!

Stretch

The characters make this show great and their relationships with each other.

chris watt

firefly was a...choice

Chris Thompson

Yeah they really weren’t into it as I recall so… *shrug*

Chris Thompson

Have only watched the opening seconds of this one, but this IS the original reaction from way back when, right?

windextor89 .

uhhh... a hugeeeeeee "why"... blink twice if yall were forced into this one.

Owen

No this seems to be a new one, they're making WWDITS references

Christopher Somers

Sorry, not excited with some of the show choices lately. Firefly and AD were canceled for a reason. They’re just not great.

Chris Thompson

So it’s a second reaction with a, presumable change of heart because why give a second chance to a show that you’ve already dismissed? Eh, k, I mean if you have a season-long slot in your calendar why not just do the new Bear??

f hf

Will you be doing The Bear s4?

Owen

Arrested Development is an absolute banger, cmon. That show is hilarious on many levels. They were both canceled because fox has no idea how to handle a good show, and they aired episodes out of order with both shows because they just didn't care.

Owen

It's 14 episodes and a movie lol it's not that big a commitment. They definitely seemed to get the vibe better this time around.

Owen

Also, I can't watch the bear because I don't want to be reminded of how shitty it was to work in kitchens and they watched like 4 seasons in the last year, I didn't feel the need to complain about it. Just ignore it if you don't want to watch it, no need for negativity.

Owen

Lotta salty people in here about a 14-episode series lol everyone needs to chill

Christopher Somers

Idk, AD was funny at times. It just didn’t resonate with me at all. Watching it again with the girls and I remember absolutely nothing about it from the first time. I just don’t know why they would choose to watch it when The Office US is right there.

Smapdi

Arrested Development is one of the all time great comedies. Some good shows get canceled and some bad shows last for years. I can already tell this comment section every week is going to be a dumpster fire (which, honestly, never would have predicted that for Firefly of all shows).

Owen

Arrested Development, from a comedy writing perspective, was 10x more cerebral and subtle than the office. There's also 9 seasons of the office, of which like 5 were actually really good. The last 2 were actively poor. And to be fair, arrested development had the same fate, if they were to skip the last two seasons I wouldn't really mind. Its a shame that it got canceled but it took too long to get picked up again and the cast and writing weren't the same anymore. That said, the first 3 seasons were the funniest sitcom/satire in tv history.

Anghel

Glad to see you guys trying this one again! Sometimes it's just down to timing on how a piece of media hits, and you seemed to be having more fun with it now than before, so I'm looking forward to more!

Owen

Thank you, sometimes you watch something and it just doesn't hit on that particular day. That said, it was a long time ago and it has some rough moments. But I still love it. Joss whedon obviously ended up being a dick but he did make some good stuff.

Joe Blankenship

Fox can't seem to keep anything on the air that's not animated. They barely promoted AD and kept moving its time slot around.

Chris Thompson

I have no negativity toward them doing Firefly, just confusion. Would be nice to get some kind of interaction with Chad sometimes, like at least an explanation for some of the shows, cos like we are paying for them so maybe a little something could be offered. Don’t think it’s asking too much.

HelloDarion

For real, why's everyone so angry lol! I've never seen Firefly despite actually seeing the sequel film Serenity years ago completely unaware of the connection. Have always wanted to understand why this series had such a cult following.

Owen

I can explain the cult following to a certain extent, it was a very promising show with very compelling characters and it was canceled without any ceremony by fox after 14 episodes. The network didn't even air the episodes in the correct order, so the fans (rightfully, in my opinion) got extremely mad about it and started one of the earliest big internet movements to get it back on the air. In doing so, they ended up creating a bunch of die-hard fans who never gave up on the dream of it returning. Unfortunately that didn't happen aside from the movie, but even just getting a movie was a huge deal back then. Also it's a really fucking cool show, come on everyone, just enjoy the cheesiness.

Diegesis

It's a short, good, feel good show that balances our portfolio better than some of the other choices. the answer isn't very exciting.

Kelvin

You guys should try Darkplace at some point, fun little short show

Pyt

This show has the exact same issue as Star Trek TNG where the "first" episode is basically a movie and is played pretty slow because they just want to build the world, even though its a universe.

Diegesis

Yes, when it fits into our schedule more cleanly.

Mark Lecuyer

Maple- Nice catch with Wash (Alan Tudyk) miming the steering wheel. Many of didn't catch that until it was pointed out on the DVD commentary. Love this show and love how much you all were invested in this pilot.

Camelot VFX

One of my favorite shows. I hope you stick with it 👍

Chris Thompson

It was more about what made you decide to give it another chance, but cool, man.

Christopher Somers

Wow yeah AD more cerebral than the Office? Not even close. AD was basically a bunch of zany offbeat characters thrown together into wild situations. It lacked the heart and soul that the Office brought. Steve Carell even though he never won any awards, helped create one of the most complex and memorable characters in American television history. AD is no doubt a well crafted comedy, but lacks depth, and will ultimately be forgotten.

Owen

Couldn't disagree more.

Joe Blankenship

Everybody turns their nose up to the theme song at first, and by the end, they're singing along to it.

Teyon Alexander

So Morena Baccarin, who plays Inara (she’s also Deadpool’s girlfriend in the films) has not had plastic surgery. She’s just that gorgeous. Looking forward to watching along with you all. I hope you do the movie also!

Teyon Alexander

Oh! And K-Pop Demon Hunters. It’s such a fun movie.

Tarynn Mckeage

I was really excited when I saw this one come up, thanks for doing a variety of shows.!

Teyon Alexander

Well the answer may not be exciting but the fact you’re doing it is! So looking forward to them falling in love with the crew.

Cornelius Ukena

damn, what an absolute treat. so excited for this reaction. i haven't watched this show in over 15 years—had forgotten how truly hectic that pilot is. 😂

Jonas

I normally wouldn't say anything, but since you brought it up, I negatively judge the intelligence who thinks The Office was a cerebral show. It was on NBC at the same time as 30 Rock and Community, and compared to those, it was lowest-common-denominator slop. There's a reason it's so popular, along with Friends and The Big Bang Theory. There's nothing wrong with being popular, of course; average people need entertainment, too, but your opinion on Firefly and AD need not be considered, since you clearly weren't the target audience.

PlaceboJones

I love watching the progression of reactors to the intro song of this show. It starts off with wtf is this, and turns into a sing-along about halfway through the season.

Stephen B Baines

The Fox execs did not like this pilot. Thought it was too dark. So they didn't air it until december, after a fair number of episodes had aired!! Instead the show started with the next episode, that they thought had more humor. Hard to imagine what execs were thinking in those days.

Richard Z Herrera

It was mostly a combo of too much hype from fans, especially toward Jayne's character, that did seem to give the show a bad taste for them, particularly when they got to the...um...joke about not having to be all there. Just skimming to that scene, they had a much more negative reaction to that scene the first time. I also think they didn't particularly like the name calling that Mal offered to Inara. I do remember chad mentioning somewhere at some point in the past that they would retry the show again. Which is cool. I like to give a show 3 episodes b4 I make a call, and Firefly has a decent shift from e1 to e2 in some aspects.

Richard Z Herrera

I feel like "basically a bunch of zany offbeat characters..." is how I would describe The Office. And while I love Steve Carell, I really do not like his character in The Office at all. And there was plenty of depth to AD, especially considering its short run. And lets not use a show getting canceled as a metric...According to Jim lasted for 8 seasons.
