House of the Dragon 2x3 | Watch Along

It's crazy how easy everyone can access Kings Landing at a time of WAR!! First Daemon and now THE QUEEN that they're fighting. Those city guards are scamming for a living.

55:08 no one every seems to get Rhaenyra's joke about ringing the bell or going in the window. I guess the humor is too dry. Slow episode but I'll never forget the tension the first time watching that great last scene.

I'd wish we could stop with the constant pearl-clutching around nudity. People act like they've never seen a penis before. And no, it's not actually pointless or "random". Nudity and sex can be gratuitous (like a lot of GoT season 1) but in this case, this was obviously a character-driven choice, a power move of sorts from Aemond to try and hide his insecurities by acting like he literally has nothing to hide, like he doesn't give a fuck. And it wouldn't have had the same effect if they had just framed the shot from his waist up, if they had hidden his nudity in some way from the camera. I actually really respect the choice of shot and Ewan Mitchell's willingsness to go there. So it's a good moment, it's a surprising moment, that's the point and it's fine to have a gut reaction to it, but I don't know why we need to act like it's only there for shock value, it's clearly not. Other than that, yeah, Rhaenyra just diddling around is kind of frustrating at this point. The pacing is pretty fucked this season. And Rhaenyra just casually strolling into King's Landing and the Great Sept to speak with Alicent is kind of ridiculous. The show runners just wanted more interactions between Alicent and Rhaenyra because Emma D'Arcy and Olivia Cooke have pretty great chemistry, so I get it, but people are travelling way too casually and quickly between King's Landing and Dragonstone.

windextor89 .

all these characters suck. its terrible what they did to Rhaenyra. she was so great as a child. nows shes her father and its killing the show for me.

I really just cant catch a vibe with this show. I didn't really get it during the first season but there were a couple of episodes that I liked, and I chalked it up to the like six different time skips. I really liked the season one finale and got me excited to watch the show and see where it was going to go. Unfortunately to me the show hasn't moved anywhere, nobody really does shit about fuck. Just last episode we saw Aegon kill rat catchers because he was so distraught by the murder of his son, and then in this episode he is just going out getting piss drunk visiting brothels with his bros (derogatory). Like really? There isn't going to be any character change or growth at all? Just right back to what he was doing on the night his son was killed. I can't get over how boring these past three episodes have been either. Nothing notable really happens in the first like 40-45 minutes of these episodes, its gotten so bad that in this episode I was actively checking to see how much time was left in the episode. There is so much fat left in that I feel like I could cut these episodes down to be like 45 minutes long. All the tension comes from the last 10 minutes and nothing else really matters, like its trying to trick me into think the entire episode felt like that and I wouldn't notice. It gives me big The Walking Dead vibes where every episode would just end on a cliff hanger just make sure you needed to watch the next episode. Which I guess is fine I guess but its definitely lazy. Anyways since there are only 5 episodes of this season left I feel obligated to finish it because my OCD brain is telling me that I just can't leave it on my "continue watching" section of my HBOMax account.

I also wish we could get over nudity and sex in movies and TV, since they are and have always been rare in terms of how much outrage they always garnered. I will how ever admit that I was not expecting to see 6 second of a blow job and it really knocked me on to my back foot.

"I need somebody to root for" exactly. Im watching all this unfold and im not invested in any of it lol

That Sept scene was the moment this season, and maybe even the whole show, jumped the shark for me, narratively speaking. Up until then, there had been plenty of nitpicky issues compared to Season 1, which in my opinion only had a couple of real narrative missteps littered throughout. But the Sept scene felt like the final nail for me (at least when it came out.... it gets worse, especially in the last episode). It gave me the sense that Condal and the writers have lost touch with both their understanding of this world and what the story is actually meant to be about. And that’s not even counting the contrivances and needless changes they cram into the next five episodes of what was already a finished story. To be fair, though, Episode 4 is a standout, mainly because they did an excellent job recreating one of the most important moments from the war in the books.

She's a witch!

I mean it's obviously all a matter of personal preference but I do think that assessment is a bit harsh. To the point about Aegon, I think his character development is completely fine. Him drinking on that night wasn't the reason his son got killed, you know, so I don't see why he would feel an obligation to change that. And other than that, he has changed, he's gotten quite a bit more angry and hungry for revenge, that's why he wanted to join the fight in this episode. I don't think he would have been eager for that in episode 1. And him going out with his buddies after Larys told him how dumb it was for him personally to think about joining the fight seemed to be about drinking his insecurities away and get a dose of the people's love that he so craves, so it made sense to me. I do agree that this episode was a bit of a dud, as are episodes 5 and 6 (which could probably have been condensed into one episode), but that's mainly due to Rhaenyra dithering about. Her scenes in particular have become very repetitive very quickly. But I thought episodes 1 and 2 were very good, especially 2. Yes, not much happened plot-wise, but the dialog and acting and conflict in these scenes was so good, I don't think these episodes were boring at all. If you do think that, I guess political dramas maybe just aren't your thing? Which is fine but I don't think it was a bad execution of the genre. Maybe the show just sent wrong expectations that people thought it was going to be dragon-fighting all the time, but it has never been that, not in season 1 either, so I don't see the problem.

Christophe

Lol I mean I will still defend this show but I won't scold people for being critical on principle. If you have problems with it, you have problems with it. Simply saying "just enjoy things" is pretty facile.

Christophe

I don't get that attitude. "Succession" is the epitome of not having anyone to root for because everybody is an asshole and yet the girls loved that show.

Christophe

I actually agree with you about the blow job, that WAS unnecessary and weird. But for some reason, that didn't seem to bother the girls as much.

f hf

We root for assholes in tv shows and movies. They just have to be well written and interesting. We root for people like Kendall Roy, Walter White, Tony Soprano, Don Draper because they're fascinating.

Athasin

They're in the GoT mindset, which is understandable since it's impossible to not watch it without making comparisons to the other.

Joshua Luzania

again i will say, people complained about just tits n ass in the first parts of GoT, and here we go in the other direction. Random dick to the face, along with graphic stillbirths and whatnot. I long for the days of just a lil TnA.

Athasin

But it just goes to show how crazy war between family members is because... there is no such thing as home field advantage.
