this is really a show that has you saying "this is the best ep of the season" like every other episode

Hiroyuki Sawano (the composer), is truly a master of his craft.

This guy is so talented that I don't even care that most of his song titles feel like they need to be de-coded. Does make it hard to look up a specific song though, especially in S3.

So the most important things that Ymir's backstory established is that : 1. You can take the power of titan from someone if you eat them in the form of mindless titan. Like ymir did with Marcel the friend of Reiner's Annie's and Berthold's 2. That probably most mindless titans used to be humans which wasn't really confirmed before, and that you can turn people into titans by injecting something into them like Ymir was.

He really is, vogel im kafig is just insane. AOT wouldn't be 10/10 without Sawano

15:15 - everyone has the same expression. 😂

Don't know if you guys a taking recs for anime but if you guys want a good laugh is The Disastrous Life of Saiki K The premise is about Saiki Kusuo a high schooler with incredibly-op psychic powers but hates being special, and aspires to be a normal student. It's a refreshing twist on the usual I-want-to-be-the-very-best-like-no-one-ever-was, power-up-ing shonen characters. In fact, the show is about Saiki's constant attempts to make his life as ordinary as possible, despite all his friends and the universe manifesting otherwise. The show is fast-paced, incredibly funny, and episodic (while following a loose timeline progression), which keeps things fresh but still has you invested in the plot. The English Dub is pretty good too

the next episode is about to be crazyy lol

I love the Ymir episode. There's so much more to unpack, but that episode was pretty mind-blowing when I first saw it. The show's really cooking now. Baby, we got a stew going.

I think y'all should switch to the dub next season, it's actually really well produced... and I wish I had told you before episode 11 so u could really tell, but if u have any free time, go rewatch the Erwin Advance scene in the dub

TubbsSkyWalker

Also, you're trying to figure it out, keep up with the subs and pay attention to the actual show... y'all don't have to do all that...this is one case when the dub is okay to watch

Edward Wittlif

IMO, they're keeping up great with everything already. It's a complicated series and they're tracking the important stuff well. (They followed everything involved with Ragako and Connie's mom without issues, for example) They can watch whichever version they'd like, of course, but I do think it might be an odd experience for them as viewers to switch mid-series. I think people get used to whichever version they watch first and those voices just feel "right" after that, not to mention the different writing style, the titan sound effects, etc.

TubbsSkyWalker

I didn't say they had to, just sayin' for an anime it has a really good dub and I thought they should check it out... I mean, it's a silent watch along, so I can sync it with the dub I'm here for the reactions regardless...and I also didn't say they weren't keeping track... It's just a more enjoyable watch because you get to really pay attention to the visuals, especially with all the action coming up..... I myself prefer subs over dub, but like my rewatches in dub IF it's a good dub...the VAs in AOT, I feel, went all out... and just in case there was any influence from the community stating everybody should watch anime in the original language, I just don't think that's the case for AOT... the writing style would also be better in the sense that subs are more of a tranlations whereas a good dub is tailored towards our grammer...kinda like King James to NASB...idk

Edward Wittlif

Yeah, you're hitting on the distinction between translation and localization, which is so fascinating to me! Every version of English SnK subtitles is also technically localized, but they tend to be closer to "word-for-word translations arranged in English syntax" than the English dub. The English dub has a lot more one-liners, quips, and things of that nature, and the extent to which that captures the way SnK reads in Japanese to fluent Japanese speakers is open to debate, which is a very interesting conversation in itself.

Don't get me wrong, next episode is no BASEMENT, but the finale is INSANE and I'm glad you're also going to watch 3x1. Season 3 offers a refreshing turn in plotline but the cliffhanger is going to REALLY piss you two off XD

Joe Blankenship

The dub voice actor for Erwin is pretty damn magnanimous.

I don’t know if you guys ever plan on watching the OVA’s on Crunchyroll but I really do think you would especially enjoy the No Regrets ones for more history on Levi and Erwin and how they got to where they are today. It just helps understand each of them so much more, in my opinion. Especially going into season 3, it’s good to have that background. Either way I’m loving watching your reactions to this and can’t wait for the next two!! The show only gets better with each season.

TubbsSkyWalker

Facts Erin too, like when he says Reiner's name after getting rocked S2, you can really feel the hate lol... not to say you can't with subs but English is the only language I speak, so idk

Daniel

Erwin and Mikasa gotta be my top 2 for this whole show tbh. Mikasa's voice actress does great with sometimes limited range in writing for her character. If there's an open anime slot after this show finishes or before then I have to recommend my personal favorite that also has Mikasa's voice actress as the main character: Violet Evergarden. It's a lot more low key than FMAB or AoT, and short compared to them (13 episodes + an extra + 2 movies), but I think you all would appreciate it.

Nigel Douglas

exactly. Although the sub voice actor cast on average is maybe a tiny bit better, several of the main dub VAs are better than the sub ones, but the dialouge is the main difference. The dialogue has more personality and is better spaced out in english. Because of how much extra yapping is required grammatically in japanese to say something, their adjectives and turns of phrase or often a lot more simpler and direct. The voice actor has to compensate. But in episode 11 alone there were so many better changes like Mikasa saying "choose, eren, or the bitch im gonna kill" with the dialogue coming in time with the zoom ins. Bertholdts speech saying in english saying "You think this is what we aspire to be?" rather than "do you think i wanted to do this?" or Erwin saying "i said advance god damn it" Connie asking "was it all bull shit?" rather than "was everything all a lie?" Theres not as much room for the characters individual personality based on their own dialogue and thats not a translation issue thats just the original japanese dialogue. They also use stronger adjectives and adverbs in english. theres poeticness to the english dialogue and it lets you watch the animation and listen to the music without having to double back down at every 2 seconds. All viewing experiences are valid but if we're throwing two cents out there, thats mine
