"For British eyes onlyyyyy" is just meant to sound like an old James Bond theme. secrets and mystery

See Wut

i love how this show just straight up breaks arianna sometimes

Patrick

I thought the second episode was going to finish her off for good.

Patrick

I'd be interested to see them watch some Bond films if they haven't been exposed to that stuff before. You could throw most of it on the camp channel.

My personal favorite line in the episode is Michael's "Don't call it that." in response to George Sr. referring to Orange County as "The O.C." which was the title of a popular series that premiered on Fox a few years before Arrested Development. Harry Hamlin was known at the time for a lot of things, but his longest running TV role was on LA Law, a popular series in the 80's. The title "For British Eyes Only" is meant to evoke the 1981 James Bond film "For Your Eyes Only", as do the titles of the episodes featuring Charleze Theron. The music cues are designed for the same effect. This is the only episode of the series to dispense with the opening titles, replacing it with a "Previously On..." montage of scenes that hadn't actually appeared in the previous episode. It also is the only episode to eliminate the "On the next Arrested Development..." ending in favor the Bond-like ending of the car driving off to the sound of a gun shot and the tagline "Michael Bluth will return in "Forget Me Now." Coincidentally, a few years later Jason Bateman and Charleze Theron would play husband and wife in the Will Smith movie Hancock (2008).

"No one was making fun of Andy Griffith. I can't emphasize that enough." I loved the Andy Griffith show growing up, and Ron Howard (the narrator), who played his son, Opie, delivering that line is one of my favorite jokes in the entire show.

Joe Blankenship

That joke takes a second to hit. You're like "Why would he say that? OF COURSE!"

Joe Blankenship

She's reminding me why I rewatched these so many times back in the day. Jam-packed with jokes.

"For your British eyes only" was a reference to the James Bond movie "For Your Eyes Only." The ending was a reference to James Bond movies, which normally ended with "James Bond will return in *movie title*"

Charlize Theron is a highly regarded actor, having won the best actress Academy Award and Golden Globe for the movie Monster in 2004. Most recently, she starred in the 2015 movie Mad Max Fury Road. Her guest appearance as Rita was a huge highlight of the show.

Season 3 only just barely happened, because the ratings were always poor, so it only had 13 episodes (season 1 had 22, season 2 was cut down to 18). So the pacing and craziness really goes into overdrive here, as you noticed. Personal favorite callback: when Michael is depressed and sits in the staircar eating a whole bag of "candy beans," which is what Gob called jelly beans back in season 2. Cameos: Jim Cramer as himself. Cramer is the host of an obnoxious Wall Street punditry show called MAD MONEY where he rants and raves and tells his audience which stocks to pick and which to avoid. Analyses of his picks over the years shows that if you followed every one of his suggestions you would almost certainly lose money. Jim Beard as himself. Beard was the real-life local newsanchor in Los Angeles at the time and pops up throughout ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT's run both on and off camera. His flashback newsclip showing him wearing a ridiculous wig might have been a set-up for Tobias' wigging out.

One that always gets overlooked: "I have a big TV opportunity!" "Well, this is where all the big T-Vs come."

brittany

the guy at the end is Harry Hamlin who ~ fun fact ~ is married to Lisa Rinna (those iconic LIPS 👄 / Real Housewives of Beverly Hills)

Weenful34

Yeah I did not expect The Devil's Advocate as the one film which jogged their memory of her, lol
