as a trans girl i'm gonna give some context bc this is my fav episode of the show: Nate is a chaser. a chaser is someone who has a sexual fetish for trans women, but usually do not respect our gender identity. a lot of the times they feel deep shame for their fetish since they view us as men, and their internalized homophobia can't handle that so many become angry and violent after sexual encounters. also as shown in the beginning with one of the men, chasers really only care about our penises and if we can "top". which also explains Nate's obsession with dicks. and young trans girls like Jules usually receive disproportionate attention from chasers since men are unwilling to date them publicly. so Jules may feel she can only really have sexual/romantic connections with men who are being sketchy as fuck. anyway hope this helps :)

In the first season of this show, Cassie, Maddy, and Nate are all high school seniors, Rue, Lexi (Cassie's younger sister), Jules, and Kat are all juniors. McKay is a college freshman, making him just one year older than Cassie. Gia Bennett is 3.5 years younger than Rue, which makes her either 12 or 13 in S1.

Here's the thing though, Jules saying that to Nate right after he threatened her is PRECISELY why he's blackmailing her. He truly believes she's self-destructive and would probably burn down his (metaphorical) house if she ever had the desire to burn down her own. So he decided to give her incentive not to. Because a mental break causing her to reveal that secret to the cops would result in her entire life being ruined even after she came back to reality.

Rue tells Ali last episode that Gia was 13 when she found her (Rue) ODing. From the fact that the OD happened the summer before and Rue specifically said, "She *was* 13," makes me think that Gia is 14 and they live in a state where high school starts at 15.

awe we paused and I gave Arianna a whole breakdown of this exact point right at the lake scene but it looks like chad cut it out and seamed it back together without the discussion in the middle - which is why i start saying "i knew it" and that everyone is "obsessed with Jules" because he did not just do all of that and not actually feel an attraction to her!! He is literally obsessed!

honestly the pause was hefty and we talkd right in the middle of a super important scene so promise from this end it's def not sus it was just a poorly timed discussion and we probably should have pinned it for the end and we talk about it more continually through other episodes! He doesn't cut things for topic purposes but watchability for patreon so you're not having to pause and try to resync it but I asked about it today and we will try to re-upload this episode but clip the pause discussion to the end so it will be with the rest of the discussion section it will look a little choppy but at least it will be there!!!

Honestly I think that had she not rejected Nate, things might have played out differently. But also, he is a guy who is vindictive, weird, transphobic and confused as fuck. Which means he is dangerous af.

But he seems genuinely distressed that he had sex with an underage girl, even if it was mostly about him losing his status in this town, it's still understandable. And he didn't go the route of like threatening or intimidating Jules, which she was clearly expecting, but it seemed like it never crossed his mind to hurt her, he was genuinely afraid she might ruin his life for this what he sees as an honest mistake (even if you can argue that he should probably do a better job of checking that his random, young, sexual encounters actually are of age). But he's clearly not violent or disturbed like his son.

i think the things nate likes in girls are to try n go as far away from the maleness as possible. no hair, not acting like a boy, siting like one etc. (possibly even more fem traits that allows him to determine sex-neck, shoulders) i think he is confused and doesn’t want to be.. nate is very much a gray area. nothing is black and white with him
