What’s amazing is that the actor who played Junior is still alive at 94 years old. He’s an amazing singer, too.

HBO is responsible for so many great shows… Got fingers crossed that you two check out the HBO Classic OZ..

Reggie Riobe

The actor who played the Cop is Charles S. Dutton, he's in a lot of classic movies, A time to Kill 1996. A low Down Dirty Shame 1994. Menace to Society 1993... all great movies that I hope you two check out some time

Athasin

I kinda hope that if they're going that route, they check out Sons of Anarchy instead.

Reggie Riobe

both shows are great, why not watch both ?

It's not odd. In my opinion, he's trying to convince himself that everyone is corrupt...at least that was my understanding. I live in Australia, so the whole tipping thing seems pretty messed up on a fundamental level to begin with. *Shrug*

I do find it a bit funny that the best argument against crime being caused by economic deprivation is standing right in front of her as she says it

petty crime and organized crime are different things

Well Meadow doesn't say Bike thefts, I think she says crime in a general sense, but more to your point: yes and no. It's not immediately clear if a crime is petty or not. For example when Christoffer robs that concert or whatever it was, that's a high risk low reward economic petty crime in a way. But it was still very much also caused by organised crime, they also do burglaries as we have seen. A real life example: Shoplifting the last few years has also been done at large scale by organised rings. Commonly perceived as petty crime, but also organised into large for profit enterprises. Consider petty crimes like theft in general. Who is over represented there? People with severe addiction problems and career criminals. Organised crime relies on the former to commit their petty crime so their own organised crime can be profitable. Their petty crime on the other hand might never have happened had it not been for what organised crime sold to them. It's not so clear to me where to draw the line there. Obviously, Jeff Bezos kids are not out here jacking cars, and drug dealers don't give away their drugs for free, that there is an economic motive to many crimes is obvious. But we all have an economic motive to not be destitute, criminals or not. And then we have to consider that to whatever extent poverty does cause crime, the people on the receiving end of crimes, who are often financially devastated, are usually the most vulnerable and destitute. So crime can also cause itself by causing poverty(also indirectly through capital flight, etc). And we haven't even touched upon the trauma and anxiety that crimes can cause. So while I was only pointing out an argument against what she was saying, personally I believe that a view that reduces any kind of crime to poverty is incorrect, because I think there's enough reason to believe that crime is a metastasizing and self-propagating thing to a meaningful extent, even though poverty often is a requisite for it.
