Euphoria 2x5 | Watch Along

idk maple it feels like yall didn’t even watch the special or REALLY listen to rue and ali’s conversation. rue is an addict who’s been in HARD drugs since she was 13. can you imagine what’s it’s done to her brain and nervous system??? like ali said shes “a piece of shit bc she’s an addict”. of course being on drugs doesn’t absolve her of fault but i feel ure bring WAYYY more judgmental of her than understanding. i get she’s doing and saying horrible things but her brain is fried girl. when going through withdrawals u will say or do anything to do more drugs bc THATS what drugs do to your brain and body. she’s not just this asshole who’s just bad for the sake of being horrible. i also feel like maple you’re not really giving the other characters enough due with their part in what happened with rue and jus making it her fault and most of it is but elliot, fez, and jules did have parts in things too

like she needs a lobotomy??!! like huh? i thought watching the special episodes would give more empathy to the mind of addict and i feel like it did for arianna but maple some of your takes were a little….

You never own us anything Maple! Share what you want, or don't what you don't want to! It's certainly a rough show, with hella heavy themes, that could touch a lot of sensitives strings. sending you (and Arianna too oc) strength and love! Thanks girls! (sorry if my words are a bit off, non native english speaker, but the will is there :'D )

I feel that given the last part of Maples discussion it’s clear she has been or is dealing with things within her personal life similar to what was shown in this episode or in the show entirely to some degree. It’s important to remember that one’s personal experience with life itself has a lot to do with how they interpret and or perceive art like this. I don’t believe she doesn’t have or is incapable of having empathy for Rue in fact I think it’s very opposite. Dealing with an addict is very difficult no matter what and there is no true one size fits all solution thus you have people who are so immediately on the empathetic side of things while being able to acknowledge the wrongdoings as well such as Arianna and then there are those whom have a harder time processing the bad things before they get to the point in which they can express empathy outwardly such as Maple.

Mo

Also I think the fact that she was able to allow herself to come back and say her piece no matter how short or vague speaks to what the show is actually doing for her. It’s triggering a response to real things that she is going through regardless of what that response may be, that is still a testament of her feelings on the show. This is not a show that one particularly "enjoys" so to speak you either connect with it or you don’t. At least in my opinion.

At the end of the day isn't the point for us all just to share a little compassion towards eachother as fellow human beings? That includes Maple, Arianna, Chad and the whole team, not just the characters on screen. Thank you guys for reacting to this show, hope fellow patrons can show some compasion with their feedback too!

Les

haven’t watched yet but it’s totally normal to feel anger, disappointment, or exhaustion by an addicts actions, it’s ok to expressed those emotions as well - of course it’s a disease but we’re also human.

The second episode I've been wanting you guys to react to since you started this show. Let's go!!!

romet uwu

girl it is never that serious holy yap. sybau please

romet uwu

crazy episode. heavy themes betrayed so well. the fight at the start felt so real. just raw and natural reactions. sending you both all the love <3

Athasin

When you're actually dealing with addicts, your empathy for them tends to be low (if even there) because they sucked every ounce of it (and every other emotion) out of you.

Athasin

Listen the reason Rue does the bad things she's done, doesn't wipe out the FACT the she's done them. Nor the fact that she's trying her hardest so she can keep doing them. Addicts can't just do whatever they want and take no accountability for what they've done because they were high/have an addiction (pretty sure every program has said this in one form or other). There is a line, and the line is when they start hurting other people. And Rue spends this entire episode hurting other people, not just emotionally but physically too.

Dani

thx for sharing all that Maple, sending love <333

Ari

The opening fight felt SO REAL. I have a sister who is mentally ill and self medicates with substances. The crash out, the deflecting brought me right back to similar situations I have dealt with with her. Zendaya absolutely deserved her Emmy. I was emotionally drained after this episode as well.

Ari and Maple i appreciate you guys so much. But this is what made me like this show. Euphoria isn’t background TV, this show tends to reopen wounds, around trauma, addiction, and relationships. I know a couple people who can’t casually watch this show. The intensity is too much for some. It brings up real feelings, and that isn’t necessarily entertainment for some it’s triggering. For me this episode is an all time episode in TV period. Cant wait to get to episode 7.

I am a 6'1" 250 lbs man, and Laurie would scare the shit out of me in person. As a former addicted i would rather deal with a Mouse then a Laurie. But prefer a Fez.

Elesh

Yeah that was insane. I also had those kind of fights and that was really triggering some trauma. Fortunately there was nothing violent in the past but there were some incredibly intense and emotionally scarring fights like that in my life.

bro you shut your bitch ass tf up the point of a comment section is to comment tf. if u don’t wanna read then scroll mf. i pay money ho and i’m finna keep talking

Born

i said this exact thing in my comment. i know why she’s doing it doesnt exemplify her of course not but to the why isn’t unimportant. her brain is literally fried. that is a pretty good reason to be acting insane. but how she acted in this episode was hard drug addict 101. when being interventions and everyone stops enabling ppl are on hard drugs can get violent. and i was explaining how it’s not necessarily a behavioral thing and she’s just being she but that her whole body is in chaotic mode

Born

i agree with this. thank you for this perspective and not ripping my head off

Lemon

WEVE BEEN WAITINF GOR THIS I LOVE YOU GUYS SO MUCH WE ALL JUST WANNA SEE RUE GET BETTER🫶🫶

I was someone who commented before asking if Maple liked the show. I was mostly just poking fun, but I appreciate Maple taking the time and effort at the end to explain what's going on. Sorry to hear you are going through it - sending some good vibes

I binged this whole show, both seasons, for the first time in a dark depressive period in my life and i was so fucking drained and shitty during/afterword. Great show though but yeah its definitely heavy, especially when you can relate to parts of it

Darcel Downing

maybe we need a lobotomy killed me lmaoooo
