If you guys think Jack Black is hilarious in this one, you just wait until you see him in High Fidelity.

SabotheHunter

Expected after the community reaction!

Diegesis

you know us well then lol also atp Maple has too after seeing Jack black live that many times

Ferdinand Martinez

Mike White the friend of jack black is also the writer for white lotus btw

If you haven't seen the Tenacious D movie, I assume you haven't seen the HBO show from 1997, either? A lot of the jokes in the movie are callbacks to that show, in case you ever decide to watch it some day. I might be fudging up my timeline, but I believe that show was a spin-off from Mr. Show, which was a sketch comedy program starring David Cross (Tobias from Arrested Development) and Bob Odenkirk (Saul Goodman, of course). Bonus fact: I think the actual first appearance of the D on film is Bio-Dome from a couple years earlier. You can find the scene on Youtube.

Yes, no one ever watches the original HBO specials. Those are great. It's only 6 fifteen minute episodes. Easy peasy.

Sergio Q

They tried to do another movie like this called The Rocker. It's okay but makes but it makes for a good double feature.

A certain article of clothing always elicits a certain phrase from my mouth because of JB in HF. You know the one.

Kung Fu Panda is very Jack Black. His personality comes out big time. Practically him in a panda suit. Also, High Fidelity with him and John Cusack is a great film.

Jack Black looks a lot like Jack Nicholson when he was in The Shining in this. Like right down to the hair cut lol, I doubt it was intentional but I can't shake it. Sarah Silverman is one of the funniest people on the planet to me and its so weird seeing her be the stick in the mud in this. Not me crying during the final performance Does that man have a tattoo above his naval that just says "Sex" LOL fucking crazy

SabotheHunter

I await the Diegesis album with the first song being the genre defining "Rat boy"

LionBro

He is. Jack and Sarah were also roommates at one point.

For those also watching The Sopranos, this is the first time I've noticed but one of the kids doing security, Frankie, is played by the same actor as Bobby's son on The Sopranos. Not really important, just funny that I never noticed before.

Looks like the recording timing is off starting at about 1:30:10 until maybe 1:31:01. Like the audio and video of Ariana and Maple are not matching.

Ian Forbes

Arianna, so happy you’re also a Rent-head and noticed Adam Pascal! I’d enjoy a reaction to the film from both of you but understand if the YouTube issues prevent it (Patreon exclusive?). 🙂

Digital Droo

Dunno if this will be popular or unpopular, but…Nacho Libre?

Goose

They should watch Nacho Libre.

Tyler Foster

In addition to Nacho Libre, there is a third Mike White/Jack Black collaboration, Orange County (2002), featuring Colin Hanks. Would be a good watch as well, especially if there are plans someday to watch Peter Jackson's King Kong (2005), which reteams Black and Hanks (and which is an example of Black doing something a little different). Will also support recommendations for Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny (which does reference the 6-episode HBO TV show "Tenacious D" as well, although it's not essential to see the show before the movie and frankly, I think it might play better to see it second since I believe they borrow some of the jokes), and High Fidelity. One underrated movie featuring Jack Black (although he is far from the focal point) is the cult comedy The Cable Guy (1996) starring Jim Carrey. One of Carrey's most misunderstood movies initially, I think people have come around to its greatness. It is also directed by and features a cameo from Ben Stiller, and the extended cast includes Matthew Broderick, Leslie Mann, Black, Owen Wilson, and cameos from Kyle Gass and Stiller's friends Janeane Garofalo, David Cross, Bob Odenkirk, and Andy Dick. It was written (uncredited) by Judd Apatow, before he broke out with The 40-Year-Old Virgin.

O

A 5 star movie right here. Random suggestion but I hope they react to Napoleon Dynamite some day!

PopeScooby

There are a lot of good Jack Black related suggestions in this comment section, so I'm going to throw one out that I didn't see from anybody else. It's a show called Mr Show. The sketch comedy show Mr. Show inspired an entire generation of comedians. It stars Bob Odenkirk (Saul Goodman) and David Cross (Tobias Funke) as well as Jack Black; Sara Silverman; Paul F Tompkins and so many others. Would be amazing to rewatch it here.

Heilige Taube

oh also the movie ENVY with Jack Black and Ben Stiller was very funny
