The masterpiece that is The Sopranos 3x11, “Pine Barrens.” Directed by Steve Buscemi, this episode is widely considered one of the greatest hours of television ever made, and seeing Arianna and Maple react to it for the first time is a journey in itself. What starts as a routine collection for Paulie and Christopher quickly devolves into a snowy nightmare in the South Jersey woods. We are losing it over the absolute incompetence and hilarious bickering between these two as they hunt for a "universal remote-put-back-on-docking-station" Russian who just won't stay dead. From the frozen ketchup packets to Paulie losing his shoe, the physical comedy in this episode is top-tier. While the boys are freezing to death and eating "Tic Tacs" for dinner, Tony is dealing with his own domestic disaster. His affair with Gloria Trillo reaches a toxic boiling point—Arianna and Maple are reacting to the infamous "steak throw" and the chilling realization that Gloria might be more dangerous than any mob rival. The parallel between the chaotic survival in the woods and the psychological warfare in the bedroom is The Sopranos writing at its absolute peak. Join Arianna and Maple as they process the "Interior Decorator" who killed sixteen Czechoslovakians and the mystery that fans are still talking about decades later. Did he escape? Does it even matter? Put on your warmest coat and join us for the ride!
