One argument I've heard in the defense of Nolan for the pet comment is that since he does live thousands of years, a being that only lives to 85, 95 if they're healthy... it is kinda like the lifespan of a human vs a dog. Doesn't mean you love your dog any less, but people have many dogs over their lifetime. Me personally, the bestiality of it all is just off putting for him to make that comment.
