The Sopranos 5x7 | Watch Along

Marcus Cato

Really great run of episodes coming up.

Richard C

Arguably everyone's least favorite episode, but it has some good things going on. Even a 'bad' Sopranos episode isn't a total loss. I'm glad I can't hear the episode audio on this one. =)

Just gonna give a shout out to old school linkin park for Session being the ending song lol

I am a new one to sopranos since I've only gone through it once but I don't think this is an especially bad episode, it's about par for the course on b-plot episodes

Christopher knows how to separate personal friendships from business, as most ppl cannot..

Kevin Charley

My least favorite episode is "Chasing It" in season 7.

Not my favorite episode for sure, but it does have its moments. I think the main problem with the episode is that it grinds the season's momentum to a halt just for these two kind of esoteric side stories with guest actors that aren't connected to anything else. Which is especially frustrating after Tony B's plotline did a complete 180 last episode and now we don't get to follow up at all with him, we just see him chilling in the Bing at the end. The Fran Feldstein plotline, eh, whatever, I could take it or leave it. It's interesting as an exploration of how Tony views his father's misdeeds and how he always shifts the blame to his mother, but in general, the scenes with Fran are just too cringe for me to really enjoy that particular small arc. The Christopher plotline is much more interesting in my opinion. Way too many people watching this episode take Christopher's side which is crazy to me, the whole point of it is to show the degree to which these mafia loansharks rationalize their exploitative and manipulative tactics to themselves in order to feel like they're actually the good guys in this scenario. "Degenerate gamblers" they call them, pinning all the blame for their financial problems on them, as if the whole weekly vig thing wasn't crazy exploitative and illegal for a reason. And it is kind of psychopathic the escalation with JT and how Chris just doesn't see his own part in that. JT seemed to be kind of doing okay, definitely had a bit of a gambling problem that he seemed to use as a sort of nicotine patch for his drug addiction, but it was like medium-stakes, it didn't seem like he was spending way beyond his means. It was only Chris dragging him into that high-stakes card game that really made him fall apart. But for Chris, that's just a "degenerate gambler" not knowing his limits, it's not his fault. It's the same dynamic like with that guy Davey from like season 2 or something, only even more fucked-up because in that instance Tony actually did try and stop Davey from playing the high-stakes card game and Davey had to really twist his arm. JT would have never gone down this path without Chris.

Tobi Olowe

This is one of my favourite episodes. It's almost like a reserve Gatsby the lady is cold hedonic has few emotions she's attracted to risk and powerful men. She gets old and she's still this person. It's exactly the kind of person their culture holds up and Tony's father found alluring but there's very little underneath. Tony can't deal with the moral dissonance he feels around her, he wouldn't have any way to talk about it without a therapist

Christian

This is my least favorite episode of the show. There is zero subtlety about Tony's mommy issues. It's also just plain weird.

I don't know if it's a bad episode. One of the most cringeworthy of all time for sure, which some translate as bad.
