If you enjoy this, I would recommend How to Get to Heaven from Belfast - a comedy thriller from the same writer that was released earlier this year. I would also heavily recommend We Are Lady Parts, a comedy about a British punk rock band named Lady Parts, which consists entirely of Muslim women. It's not got anything to do with Derry Girls, but has a similar sense of humour. It's criminally underrated.

The girl who plays Michelle is almost identical to my ex girlfriend, and i mean identical, it makes this show really weird to watch, but its a great show, and the Northern Ireland troubles running parallel is a really powerful element

I've never heard of this series, but I generally trust your judgment, so I'll dip my toe in and come back to the reactions if I enjoy it. First impressions, I just can't with the 30-year-old "teenagers". Pretty appropriate I suppose since it's set in the 90's when this practice used to be much more common but it just throws me off every time. Maybe it's something I'll get used to over the course of watching the series, but so far, pretty distracting. At times, Erin and Orla sound like they've been smoking 2 packs a day for the last 10 years. I like the setting, pretty unique, so should be good for some specific regional humour, I like what they're doing with it so far. I think originality is one of the most important things for me when starting any new series, so off to a good start there. I'm worried about the character of James and what they'll do with him comedy-wise. Seems like he's set up for some pretty lame and cliché effeminate-man jokes that could cross the line into tasteless. Guess I'll see. In this episode, his moments were fine, I suppose, if a bit predictable. I think so far, ol' Barristan Selmy here had some of the best lines imo. "I'll find some dirt on you yet boy, I have people working on it, "struck down in her prime" lmao.

The show is really good. I think over time you'll just see the characters and not the older actresses. I may be biased though, having grown up in the 90's I've been watching 30 year old's play teenagers most of my life.

It also cannot be understated how brilliant the music choices in this show are. Part of the reason this show has never been released to buy, at least in the UK, is because of the licensing costs.
