Okay, so I feel like I need to point out a few things when it comes to Shane's autism, to maybe make it a little more clear for you, to help you pick up on it (I mean no ill with this, I am autistic and happen to see a lot of myself in Shane): 1. He struggles in social interactions – he doesn't pick up on subtext and can't really read between the lines, so things are often unclear to him. To navigate this he asks a lot of questions, to the degree that it sometimes seems like a little much. If he doesn't ask questions he mostly looks like he's trying to fit in by not saying much. 2. He struggles with emoting – expression wise, Shane's face doesn't do a lot. Hudson Williams' acting is superb because with how stiff and held together Shane is he really does say a lot with just his eyes and micro-expressions. 3. He struggles with unwritten rules, unclear instructions and new situations– he doesn't know when his questions are too much and when he's going too far. In situations where he doesn't know what is expected he flounders on what to do (e.g. putting on a suit and then changing out of it before his first tryst with Ilya). Often he turns to others for help/guidance (e.g. gets help decorating his home, which leads to a ridiculous amount of pillows – but the interior designer put them there, so surely that's right..?). There are so many instances in this show where Shane's autism is so clear to me, and Hudson Williams played his part very intentionally, but since you've only seen so many episodes and I have a tendency to ramble I'll stop there.
