As always, y'all are great and none of my frustration with the show is a reflection of the channel. It's still fun to watch with y'all. That said.. This finale is why I wont keep watching. This was poor writing- Rhanerya is not evil. She hasn't done anything before this episode that could qualify as such. She is contested solely because she is a woman. She's being turned on and accused of things that are simply illogical. Baela talking about being tired- the scene In which Addam said she was tired Baela objected and said she could keep patrolling and Rhanerya immediately told them to get rest and sent Daemon instead. She didn't abandon Rhaena, she was tasked with going to pentos with the babies- which BAELA encouraged her to do! Rhaena promised to do such and then ran off from the convoy and disappeared only to show up later with the world's jankiest dragon and get Jace killed. lol She blamed Rhanerya for Corlys being kidnapped when he disobeyed orders and left KL because he was having a tantrum that she didn't IMMEDIATELY legitimize his bastards after his denial of them for decades. lmao The scene with Baela alone was cartoonishly bad, imo bc it was so out of nowhere, particularly for B and how she said it. There is so much more but this was just a classic case of having insane standards for a woman while redeeming an inept, drunkard rapist and a megalomaniac kinslayer. This was just poor writing, all the way around. I know they're also endearing us to Daeron which is the singular exception of okay writing, but I think I mostly just liked Benjamin Evan Ainsworth's performance. Just in case no one else already said it: That's Miles Wingrave from Bly Manor.

Dude, discontinue the lithium. Rhaenyra obviously does evil things in this episode, like what are you talking about? You can still argue Baela was being unfair or whatever, and obviously Rhaenyra's rule is contested basically only because she's a woman, like yeah, no shit. The fact that she's being resisted because she's a woman despite obviously being more fit to rule than Aegon is the whole point, that's why the story rings true. Would it be good writing to have everybody just accept her like Westeros is a non-misogynist utopia? Because that would be meaningless and dumb. Also, in what way did they redeem Ulf or Daemon in this episode?? xD They clearly do evil, dumb shit for their pride and ego, what are you even talking about?

Christophe

I think, overall, Rhaenyra's heel turn was pretty satisfying over the course of the last two seasons. Maybe they took their time a bit too much but in the end, because it was such a slow turn, it was worth it. Rhaenyra's arc is what D&D thought they were doing with Daenerys. Overall, I've enjoyed this season for what it was but I'm now really concerned about the pace. Before the season aired, I had like two or three events in mind from the book that I thought they might end the season on, but the battle at Tumbleton was not on the list, I thought that would be way earlier, like maybe episode 4 or 5. It's not completely certain what point in the book they will choose as the end of the show but assuming they want to bring the current conflict to a somewhat satisfying conclusion, they still have so much to do. They ended this season like they had two or three more left, not a single one. If season 4 is truly to be the last season, I have no idea how they're going to properly wrap it up in 8 episodes, the pace has to be breakneck. Which might be exciting but could also lead to it feeling a bit shallow and like they're just racing through plotpoints to get to the end, which gives me real GoT-season-8 anxiety.

MabelandMargaret

Yeah, which kind of backs up what I'm saying.. It seems ham-fisted and clucky because show Rhanerya has, by most accounts, been a good person/shown to be the right one for the job.

MabelandMargaret

You're being real weird. I won't engage with anyone being this combative while mostly agreeing with my point.

Ladies gwaynes plan was stupid and would have never have worked even if agreed. For one Rhaenyra cannot just let Daeron live and rule old town, he is a challenger whether he wants it or not. Secondly that wouldn’t solve anything because aegon and aemond are still out there and would not agree. Lastly ormund has control of the army lol, he would still have kept doing what he has been doing with or without Daeron.

Jacob Livingston

To be fair Aemond has always shown remorse, he felt terrible about what happened to lucerys. And Allicent can’t go back to Aemond and aegon she just tried to poison him lol.

Jacob Livingston

And Rhaenyra absolutely had to do this right now. Word of aegon and sunfyre rising up was spreading and everybody was getting behind him. Was it stupid? Yes. Did she make an enemy of the faith? Yes. But she had to do this now that aegon and sunfyre have “risen from the dead”

S4 is the last season of HOTD but we do get AKOTSK S2 next year! Should seasons 2&3 of it before S4 of HOTD so thank goodness we have that for the long 2 year wait
