Not commenting on what's happens going to happen, but as far as being logia, I think Ace has to take the hit because Akainu was aiming for Luffy. So if he simply let the attack go through him Akainu would have probably killed Luffy. But Logia or not Ace is very strong in his own right.

But I do actually think he didn't take 100% of the impact, even if there's an actual hole you can see that the edges of it are fire, which means he is at least partially turning that part of his body into flames, but he probably had to take SOME of the impact at least in order to stop the punch from reaching Luffy

Never once did he say it was justified because of his temper. He said it was consistent with his character, which is a fact. If Ace hadn’t turned around it would’ve gone completely against who he is as a person and wouldn’t have made any sense.

I understand that this is something he inherited from roger but roger was rocky because he actually was strong and knew he could take on anybody, but ace fell right into akainu knowing he is not strong enough and fucked up all the sacrifices

I don't really get why you got the impression that Akainu is just a dumb jock. Even in the real world military, in order to get a high rank, such as Admiral (in the Navy) or general (in the Army) you need to be a briliant strategist. This actually also explains why the Admirals took on a more passive role in Marineford: They're very high in the chain of commands, and are valuable assets as such, so if the Marines lose even one of them, that weakens their position immensely.
