Fishman island arc is not that bad. I've always thought that this arc suffered from being the post-Marineford arc in a way. It's clearly not the best arc in One Piece or even the best post-timeskip arc, but it's not terrible either. I much prefer this arc to those of Thriller Bark or Davy Back Fight...

HELL YEAH ! ANY DAY ! Thriller Bark was saved by Kuma in my book. The last quarter of the arc is S-tier ! But the first three quarters... Moria and his zombies, Hogback and his "wife," Absalom the pervert, Oars, etc... I couldn't care less. Only Brook stands out ! The fishmen island arc tells a story that has many connections to what happened before and what will happen later. Hody is a weak villain but the history of his people takes precedence.

Whoo boy this episode... There is so much that I want to say about the events that took place here and your reactions; but I can't without spoiling at what's about to happen in.... 30 episodes (*CRIPES THIS ARC IS SLOW!*) Fwiw: I'm pretty sure a lot of the criticism of this arc is in no small part due to how the anime paces it. For reference, you've been in the Fishman Island for 14 episodes so far. In the remade Fishman Island arc that has better animation and pacing; this takes place during episode 7. Make no mistake, there was criticism in the manga too; mostly on account of how things happen in the later half of the arc, but the fact the anime messed up so much in adapting it absolutely didn't help either.

I'd say it's about the same as Thriller Bark. If anything I think they're almost like opposites; all the things that are good in this arc are missing in Thriller Bark, and the things that made Thriller Bark enjoyable are just not here. I do agree though that this isn't the worst Post-Timeskip arc either. (Though I'm 99.999% sure that we are *not* going to agree on what is the worst post-time skip arc lol)

I'd put Fishmen Island just below Skypiea. They have the same kind of dynamic. Skypiea is better because the main villain was better and the sense of adventure was more captivating. But the arcs are in the same category. Thriller Bark was a purely comedic arc for Halloween. I'm not interested in it at all lol EXCEPT for its last quarter, once again

BTW Lucky, it would be nice if you could make a tiers list video of the One Piece pre-timeskip arcs! From the one you liked the least to the one you liked the most!
