I don't think it was fear that he felt that made him lose his powers. Fear causes stress, so it should have made him stronger, I believe he was actually feeling admiration at that moment, which actively reduced his stress.

Oh hey: It's the Buff-Doofenshmirtz meme that I've seen XD (Also; interesting how Shigarakis VA has changed around his voice now that he's "awakened") And yeah: Krowft right in that it definitly wasn't fear that Destro was experiencing; you slightly talked over it, but he openly says that he knows how to turn fear into stress. The way I'm thinking, it's either the opposite of stress and he's feeling hope because he can see Shigaraki is someone he can put faith in, or it's the opposite of that and he's gone beyond fear into feeling hopelessness and the stress doesn't exist because he knows theres no point in struggling. Also: I saw about how this arc was supposed to take place earlier in the series; but I actually like how the anime did it. It sets up the mystery and the hype and only then after that do you see what cause everything. To me that's actually pretty cool storytelling.

So basically the last two seasons were to prepare deku and shigaraki for each other. Deku fought overhaul with a similar quirk to shigaraki and shigaraki fought re-destro who has a similar enhancing power like deku.
