btw episode 626-628 are filler. its an okay one which I would consider the calm before the storm that is the massive arc of dressrosa. Remember lucky the arc is long but its also partly cuz of bad pacing even though its generally considered good but im sure youll enjoy it either way.

Philip

Poor smoker got powercliffed post timeskip. Humbled by Law, Vergo, and now Doffy. Except for his appearance in Marineford, it was his first big role in an arc since Alabasta. It sucks to see such a cool character get constantly bodied like that.

Blue buddy

If I did my math right he would be done with it by September

Blue buddy

It pays to have such strong friends made me laugh 😆

Philip

wow 6 months for one arc... I feel like we watched all of FMAB in that amount of time 😂

Star

well this next arc is almost double fmab in length. Difference is lucky did 1 or 2 eps a week while one piece gets 4 a week

The fast forward button gonna be lucky best friend

If they didn’t tease Aokiji TWO TIMES just before this it would’ve been a real shocker.

Sometimes you guys say Alabasta and sometimes I see others say Arabasta, which is which?

Philip

Alabasta/Arabasta Loguetown/Roguetown Zoro/Zolo Yes some people actually think it’s Zolo from the translation they get. The japanese don’t have a distinction between R and L so sometimes it’s hard pick the right english spelling unless it’s derived from an english word. Like Crocodile obviously wouldn’t be clocodile. I’ve heard cases on both sides for your particular example like Alabasta for alabaster or Arabasta for Arabia. I usually just default to to what the community mostly refers to it as which in this case is Alabasta. Another example I hear in Luckys case is he usually says Shichibukai for the warlords and Emperors instead of Yonko. I’ve heard him say all ways of course but interestingly the community goes by Warlords and Yonko. I think the Kaizoku fan subs lucky used for the first 300 or so episodes influenced that haha but yeah sometimes the anglicization takes over and becomes the more popular one. Some cases it doesn’t like I wouldn’t say Eneru instead of Enel

Philip

The day lucky starts fast forwarding one piece I’ll cry 😭 chainsaw man it’s okay but one piece 🙅‍♂️ no but the pacing sometimes really is that chopped i def fast forwarded a few times when i watched it

So if Arabasta resembles Arabia, and Japanese don’t even have or pronounce the letter L, then on what basis did the translators call it Alabasta lol, not to mention Zoro and Zolo. You know that’s not the first time I see media productions call Persia Arabia. Remember classic Loony Tunes when they brought up Persians and calling them Arabians, or when Aladdin is “Arabian” but the culture and architecture was Persian, while the characters were Indian? Then they call that Arabia LOL. I thought that was an American thing and now I see the Japanese have that same confusion. It didn’t occur to me that was Arabia since “Alabasta” was written instead of “Arabasta”, so I assumed Persian. Funny thing is that sometimes in the anime they speak English. Like in JJK, everyone says “Ruru” for the culling game rules lmao.

g27

He can probably fast forward flashbacks if that helps.

Philip

It’s more so L and R make the same sound. And Oda does know some English and has some knowledge of Western culture, like in this arc Punk Hazard obviously an english name pronounced as panku hazado in japanese. And there’s a lot of english just on screen like Monet had a shirt that said happy on it and I think Nami wears shirts with English on it too. Oda does a lot of research to take inspiration from Western ideas or mythology or history in his story like the ancient weapons named after gods or Blackbeard is named after a real pirate in history. Funny thing like your Ruru for rules example is not always they’re just speaking english, that’s just a modern day translation. The Japanese take a lot of foreign/Western words and just phonetically translate them like there are other ways to say rules in japanese but they’re more formal and traditional like old style japanese which doesn’t match the tone of the jjk kids

g27

Got it, so it’s just us saying “Cappuccino” which is an Italian word that resembles the brown color of the Cappuchin friars, that we didn’t translate but just pronounce it directly in English. Or more accurately like saying “Latte” which is Italian for milk. Or “coup” which is French for a blow. Or “espionage” which is French for spying.

Philip

Yes I think that’s a better way of putting it, so that we keep that original essence of the word and we just adapt it to our language and context for our personal use cases

Nghi Nguyen

This is a chess match between Law and Doffy. Meanwhile, Luffy and Aokiji are the 2 unpredictable pieces on the board.

Fast forward button started being used in dressrosa for me. I literally couldn't survive some episodes. If it weren't for the fast forward i literally wouldn't have finished it. I delayed watching it for months literally. Hopefully lucky uses it.

Bad writing🤷‍♂️
