Haha!! Ooh boy, if mean talking about my opinions on Garfeil got you hyped: you might want to reign in your expectations a bit since, like I mentioned to Star in the last ep, I’m very much aware theres a non-zero chance I’m literally the only person on the planet with this opinion on account of being just weird like that lol. I’m just saying; hopefully you don’t end up blaming me if nothing big happens on that front 😆 On a more serious note: I’m a little bit sad our mutual freind g27 hasn’t been able to catch up with the series yet. It’s these episodes talking about Subarus past that I was referring to when I was talking with him back in Season 1 about how the show will eventually explain why Subaru acts the way he does. Especially since its the type of backstory you don’t normally see, even in the more grounded or realistic type of shows, and yet it’s so common that you’ve probably met more then one person in your life thats like this, if not being something you’ve already personally experienced. And tbh, I feel like the strangely unique level of relatability for Subaru from this backstory is genuinely a large part about why not just the series as a whole is so loved, but that its not uncommon to hear people say he’s one of their favourite anime protagonists period.

Subarus character is a double edged sword for many people. They either love him for how real and relatable he is or they hate him for not being an aura farming op mc with 0 emotion lol ( a bit over exaggerated there but yall know what I mean I hope). I personally love him lol and his exaggerated behaviour and attempts to save people and be amazing is just a cover up for how he truly feels about himself.

The author of Re-zero likes to talk a lot about “what if” scenarios concerning Re-zero. In one of them he describes what would happen if Subara never got transferred into another world. Basically, his parents would eventually be successful in getting through to him and he would leave his depression. He would get back to school and get the Japanese education equivalent of a Highschool GED. He would later get into some college and meet a girl who he falls in love and starts a family with her. He leads a very happy and successful life. Also, concerning the actual story, the author has confirmed that Subara’s absence (basically presumed dead) has been immensely stressful to their parents and they’re left in a deep depression.
