"Fuck you from the present!" screamed a future voice from behind me. I turned to look, but only saw a closing portal. Two minutes later, I was slapped in the face with hundreds of fun and informative pages. At first I thought it was an ordinary copy of Mary Beth's Bean Bag World Monthly, a magazine covering the news and market of collectible Beanie Babies. I have a million of these. It's not even the first time I was attacked with one. But then I looked at the date. 2026. Gasp, I thought. This was published this month.

Of course I had to try it, but I was disappointed the 1-900-89M-BETH phone number wouldn’t connect. I guess that sub is too deep for cell signal.

It was nice for the doll to take over as she went for a dip—I mean, that was the real one all along.

You know, I was wondering why I woke up screaming in a cold sweat way too early this morning

Oh thank god this was a parody. If it had been real issue, this would be one of the darkest articles on the entire website

Munchy P

Good to see Mr. Chapley landing on his feet with a new role at Poxco. Or his gnawed bloody ankle stumps, I imagine; but still good for him.

Dave Dalrymple

With all the microplastics accumulating in our bodies, we too shall soon know the horrors of Being Beanie.

Goat Face

I quite like the bat. Is it associated with any particular atrocity?

Amber Marshall

Yes, a Seanbaby Photoshop article 🤘🏻

Vooster

I actually still have the snake, octopus, and flamingo beanie babies. I think they're neat.

Complete non-joke, but I just looked up what actually happened to Mary Beth. On the Robert Ebert website, I found: And what are Mary Beth’s interests now? She remarked, “My life couldn’t be any more different now than it was then. My youngest, who is born in 2001, is now a sophomore in college; we have two of my sons’ weddings this year and two grandbabies who fill my heart with so much joy, with one on the way. My passion is ministry in the church, and I went back for a master’s degree in theology at Notre Dame University. I’m about halfway through.” So I'm guessing that through Beanie Babies, she saw hell, and now has devoted herself to God lest they return and consume the rest of her soul.

One of the many weird things about this is I can remember the 1990s (which was just a few years ago, right?), and I can remember being a teenager and Mary Beth's outfits would have been the outfits of a mom who were incredibly older than me...and now I look at her and can see a woman who I would probably pass by on OKCupid because she was too young! And that, realistically, would probably still be going to Pokemon tournaments. Like, it might be sideways, but this article made me realize that "Grandmother who competes in Pokemon tournaments" is actually, on average, who I will probably be dating.

CHAUGGLE

Uh, trigger alert. I DIED OF DIARRHEA, just like Colin.

Jeff Orasky

Wait, so she will NOT buy puppets? What if they still have their little tags? They have a heart on one side and the other side says, "Definitely, 100% Beenie Babby," in crayon.

Thad Boyd

Waaaait a minute! The company behind Beanies announced in August 1999 that it would be retiring all beanies!

FancyShark

On the one hand, Lance Kirkland lived through trauma no one should ever experience. On the other hand, imagine reading that caption in 1999 while somehow not hearing about Columbine.

Bonnybedlam

We all know the Beanie market has been dead for decades but I just went to eBay and someone is trying to get a thousand US dollars for a Patriot 9/11 dog. Used. (I'm not even going to speculate on how.)

Sebben

That columbine beanie is fucking nuts

Swift Justice

Amazing timing for classic 90s 'Pokemon is just a passing fad' throwbacks given it's right now the 30th anniversary of Pokemon.

sissyneck

yes im havin a premanition that the clown-face boy is here among us now, grown and terified that this the most shameful moment of his youth is surfaced again, and prayin don draper style that no-one thinks to connect him to a past he thought safely barried

SingingH0b0

Randomly thought of Pants Chapley yesterday and then there he is in the article

I don't get what is wrong or funny here, this is how all long running hobby magazines are
