10 minutes in and I had to come here to say, Dux said he went to East St. Louis, which is on the Illinois side of the river, and in the 80s and 90s was pretty close to what he described, unfortunately

For the curious, here is roughly the part of town Frank is referencing: https://maps.app.goo.gl/S4zDCZdUeSWSsbmMA. He picked an area pretty famously rough (now mostly torn down), which is probably why he thought to set it there. No one’s going to remember what was there in the 70’s.

Pretty sure Frank chose East St. Louis (Ill.) as his famously rough neighborhood of choice when he saw Clark Griswold’s station wagon get HONKY LIPS spray painted on it in East St. Louis in National Lampoon’s Vacation (1983).
