Happy Valentine’s Day, witches! Let’s talk about the magic of strawberries since they are very popular to celebrate this day! Did you make or eat anything with strawberries today?
Love, romance, good luck, and pregnancy are not only the magickal properties of the luscious strawberry, but the medicinal, physical properties as well! Packed with tons of good vibes and minerals, strawberries are one of our favorite magickal fruits!
Although strawberries have only relatively recently been cultivated in Europe and western cultures, beginning around 1300 C. E. in France, folk all around the world have used strawberries for a variety of purposes for centuries. In South America before the Europeans arrived, strawberries were traded. North American First Nation tribes used strawberries as medicine, particularly as a women’s medicine used to clear toxins and support fertility and child-rearing.
In Asia, strawberry’s detoxifying properties were also recognized as many as 2600 years B. C., at which time the Yellow Emperor used the leaves of the strawberry plant in a weak tea to detoxify and reduce the effects of aging. The Romans used Strawberries to lift the spirits and relieve bad breath as well as to treat a variety of digestive complaints.
Strawberry’s popular reputation, however, solidified around fertility early on, and there it has remained. Strawberry shows up in European mythos as a fertility-inducing and love-producing fruit beloved of goddesses such as Venus, Aphrodite, Freyja, and the Virgin Mary. It was said the fruit of strawberry, when shared with another, would produce love.
In Bavarian folk tradition, strawberries are gathered and hung in baskets on the horns of cattle to pay the local nature spirits in trade for many healthy calves and cows who produce an abundance of milk. It was said that if a pregnant woman carried strawberry leaves in her pocket they would relieve the pains of pregnancy. From inducing love to producing offspring, strawberry has been recognized as a potent little herb.
It’s no wonder, too, strawberry has enjoyed a solid standing amongst the fertility herbs of folklore and mythos. Strawberry is a member of the Rosaceae family, also known as the Rose family, known for their love-inducing properties.
Strawberry Magic
Strawberry magic is the magic of dedication to fertility. Reproducing primarily through runners, Strawberry gives of herself until the young plants are well established. She is capable of sustaining those young plants, too, should the ground be immediately unsuitable for growth. I’ve seen young Strawberry plants bear fruit while hanging from mother plants in baskets or stretching across pavement. Strawberry teaches us the lesson of dedication to that which we long to produce no matter whether the conditions appear to be right.
Through her seeds, strawberry amplifies this message of dedication. Strawberry seeds grow on the outside of the fruit and can germinate even when soil isn’t present. Strawberry knows deep down no matter what the present conditions appear to be, she has the power to succeed. Strawberry magic is the magic of success through inner vision that sustains until the outer world is ready to receive.
Success, as strawberry teaches us, requires proper preparation of one’s self. How could she sustain so many at once if she weren’t properly prepared? Her habit of emerging early in spring to blossom and fruit at the very beginning of the season speaks to her preparation, so quickly does she shuck off her winter’s sleep in exchange for early spring’s fertile rush. People through the ages have recognized strawberry’s gentle detoxifying, antibacterial, and astringent properties; those same properties encourage us to gently prepare ourselves for the projects or fertile periods ahead. If strawberry has come into your life, perhaps it is time to clear away the husks of what came before to make room in your mind, body, and spirit for the new season dawning in your life.
Strawberry plants are perennials. Cultivated strawberries live for around three to four years while wild strawberries can live as long as ten years. If strawberry has come to you around a specific project, you can expect it to be a project of neither particularly long nor short duration. Strawberry projects are often projects for a period of time or a stage of life. The nature of the strawberry who has shown up in your life, cultivated or wild, particularly if it corresponds with the nature of your project, can give you some insight into both the intensity and duration of the work.
Wild strawberries tend to concentrate their energy and healing properties more intensely and in small fruits than their cultivated cousins. Thus, if your project has grown up or come to you through a wild, uncontrolled, undirected manner or source, you may be able to expect a longer duration of more concentrated energy and small-sized but intense fruits. Conversely, if your project has been carefully cultivated, you may enjoy large, abundant fruits for a shorter period.
In Astrology, strawberry is considered a feminine plant and is governed by Venus. Strawberry’s element is water.
This berry fast tracks its user to immediate results, but be ready for the intensity that this magickal ingredient brings.

STRAWBERRY FREEZER JAM LOVE SPELL
Strawberry season is well on its way here in Georgia, and as such, we ventured out to the local farm to pick us some delectable, juicy strawberries. Picking fresh strawberries is my favorite part of Spring, although in most places strawberries don't ripen until Summer. Either way, heading out to the country for a morning out in the fresh air is on the top of my list of things to do as soon as the strawberries are ready. I try to make it out every year, and each time I come home with more strawberries than before; they are just that good! I love to eat them fresh or dehydrated where they turn into gummies, but my all-time favorite way to enjoy strawberries is through strawberry freezer jam. It also happens to be my father's favorite, so I am also sure to bring him some once it's ready. And every year, I am sure to fill each jar with love, a simple kitchen witch spell I am passing on to each of you today.
Now I know love spells get a lot of flack, but this one isn't going to make anyone fall madly in love with you against their will. It's designed to let them know you love them and can be "spiced" up, if you will, to induce amorous feelings if you so wish. However, I usually make this for my dad and co-workers, so I'm not looking to do anything other than let them know I care about them. If you are worried about free will, this isn't a spell that will infringe on that right.
What You'll Need
- 4 Cups Strawberries (2 cups crushed)
- 4 cups sugar
- Sure Gel Pectin
- 3/4 cup water
- Freezer-safe jars
- Cinnamon (optional)
What to Do
The recipe I use to make freezer jam is the one featured in the Sure Gel Pectin recipe. Make sure you follow it exactly as stated, otherwise your freezer jam will not set and you will be left with a syrupy mess!
During the Waxing or Full Moon, mix your crushed strawberries with your sugar. Stir the mixture clockwise to draw love in. As you do, envision the people you wish to share the jam with. See them delighted and thankful for the wonderful gift, smiles adorning their faces. Remember how much you love and care for them and pour this energy into the mixture. See it filling with pink, red, and golden light as you infuse it with your love. Continue stirring and say, "Strawberries red and sugar sweet, let those close know how much they mean to me." Allow this mixture to sit for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
In a saucepan, mix your water and pectin and bring to a rolling boil for one minute. Stir constantly then combine with the strawberry-sugar mixture. Stir clockwise to combine the two completely while saying, "Pectin bind this spell together, seal in the love that shall not weather." Immediately jar and allow to sit at room temperature for 24 hours before refrigerating or freezing.
If you wish to add a little spice to your love life and conjure some amorous feelings from a partner, add a pinch of cinnamon to the recipe, while saying, "I add this cinnamon to spice up my love life. Bring me the passion I seek."
Understanding the why's of a spell are just as important as performing it. It helps you understand the process so you can modify the spell or ritual to suit your needs and helps guide you to write your own. It's my intention that by providing these explanations, that you can build a better understanding of how spells are written and executed so you can modify and build your own spells (the goal of my Spellcraft Series).
Why You Did It
For this spell/ritual, you have two options for the Moon phase, giving you ample time to make your freezer jam before your strawberries sour. Both the Waxing and Full Moons are about manifestation, especially if you are looking to bring something new into your life, such as spicing your love life up a bit. These are also the perfect Moon phases for love spells, whether you are promoting friendship or seeking a new relationship.
The main ingredient in this spell is the strawberries! Strawberries, which are red, heart-shaped, and governed by Venus, have long been associated with love. They are considered a fruit of passion and according to Roman mythology, are said to have arisen when Venus wept for the death of Adonis, her lover. Furthermore, the idea of strawberries being a symbol is so engrained in modern society that on Valentine's Day, chocolate cover strawberries are commonly exchanged as a token of love. Due to their color, shape, and mythological and modern associations, strawberries the perfect fruit for a love spell, especially a freezer jam.
The sugar is added to sweeten the spell, enhancing the feeling of love, as well as to stabilize the mixture so it can set up properly. It's more than just a bit of spellwork here. The ingredients were combined by stirring clockwise to bring things to you and those partaking of the jam, while your visualization and energy raising infused your love and kind feelings into the strawberries and sugar. Finally, the pectin was added to bind the ingredients together, including binding your intentions into the spell so they don't wander off. Energy has a habit of dissipating and the pectin is able to bind this energy to the spell, as well as bind the ingredients so you end up with a jam instead of syrup.
If you added cinnamon to your jam, this was done to "spice" up your love life. Cinnamon is associated with love and sexual desire due to it being a "hot" herb. The spiciness of cinnamon is said to heat things up and therefore explains cinnamon's association with the element Fire. The powers of cinnamon were so potent, it is believed the Egyptian queen Cleopatra included cinnamon in her famous seductive oils to increase her allure.
Wish to break this spell? Toss the jam out!
Remember to record this ritual on your ritual/spell worksheet or in your Book of Shadows for reference later.
Strawberry Passion Spell
Why not celebrate Valentine’s Day with a little kitchen magic? This is a day that could be used for casting beauty spells for attraction. This is a lust spell by Moody Moons to enhance romantic feelings and encourage . . . recreational fun for lovers. *wink*
For this spell, you will need:
*strawberries
*1 part cocoa powder
*1 part honey
*1 part water
*splash of vanilla extract
*pinch of cinnamon
Also:
*a small saucepan
*a whisk
In folk magic, the strawberry symbolizes passion, romance and fertility, making it the ideal ingredient for a love spell in the kitchen.
Grow your own strawberries for the best quality spell ingredient, but at least get your strawberries from a local farmer. Or, as a last resort, find organically grown strawberries in the supermarket.
Cocoa powder finds a place in traditional medicine almost anywhere it grows. Particularly, some indigenous healers use it as an aphrodisiac.
Its metaphysical properties share this energy. 🙂
Honey “sweetens” temperaments and softens hearts.
Okay! Let’s whip up a little passion potion to pair those little beauties with.
Combine cocoa powder, water and honey in a small sauce pan over medium heat, whisking constantly for 2-3 minutes and stirring in a clockwise motion.
In kitchen magic, the spoon or whisk equates with the wand. Take this opportunity to raise power and infuse your ingredients with the energy of your intentions. Try a simple, cutesy chant or “draw” symbols in the chocolate with a spoon and watch them disappear.
That’s a lot of powerful love ingredients in one little potion, but let’s add a couple more.
A splash of vanilla extract adds warmth to the heart and dispels any lingering or hidden resentment.
Finally, add a dash of ground cinnamon to “heat up” passion.
Bring your chocolate and strawberries into the bedroom. Or wherever. (A naughty picnic somewhere secluded? *wink, wink*)
How you eat the magic is up to you.
