Let’s talk about Friday the 13th magic, spells and Frigga! Many people view Friday the 13th with a negative perspective, but did you know that this day is actually connected to goddess energy? In this post, we are going to learn about the true meaning of this day and how you can harness the magic and power of this energy! How are you going to celebrate the divine within?

Lisa Stardust says, "Say goodbye to triskaidekaphobia! Also known as: the extreme superstitious and fearful views of the number 13. Contrary to popular belief, Friday the 13th is anything BUT unlucky. The reason it’s believed to be so scary and dangerous can arguably be traced to the patriarchy.

Friday the 13th is actually a time to embrace womanhood, power, menstruation, sex, magic, and love… all things the patriarchy’s misogynistic agenda has deemed evil for centuries. As we roll into another Friday the 13th, we’re granted with a wonderful opportunity to manifest and change our lives for the better. And luckily, by learning its true meaning, we can break down these superstitions and embrace the true power of the day."

Debunking Friday the 13th Myths:

Bri Luna, owner and creative director of The Hoodwitch, has debunked many of the beliefs that society held to be true about Friday the 13th. Here are a few myths that Bri has shed light upon:

The reason that the number 13 is considered bad luck is because of Judas Iscariot, a disciple and the 13th attendant of the Last Supper, who betrayed Jesus Christ. The crucifixion of Christ was also on a Friday, which has made people extra weary of the correlation.

In numerology, 13 is a number of growth and transformation.

In astrology and magic, Friday is a time when we honor the “Great Goddesses” like Venus, who is known for her divine feminine power, charm, and sexuality.

Magical Ways To Celebrate Friday The 13th from Lisa Stardust:

Manifest Luck

A great way to welcome luck into your life is to surround yourself with lucky charms, such as horseshoes to bring in good fortune, an evil eye to ward off bad luck, dice to tip the odds in your favor, and acorns which symbolize prosperity. You can wear these together as a charm bracelet or necklace, or hang them on the walls in your home.

Take Your Power Back

Put on some red lipstick or wear red clothing to elevate your personal power. This color exudes toughness, and tells people that they can’t mess with you. It can make you feel courageous, bold, and willing to take on the world. Dab a little patchouli oil to heighten the senses (and make you a force to be reckoned with) on your root chakra, the chakra that is the foundation, base, and strongest energy center, to increase flow power. It’ll help lend you control and power over yourself, others, and any situations you may find yourself in.

Bathe In Love

Before preparing this bath, brush up on your cooking and fire safety regulations to ensure your own safety and the safety of others.

Gather 2 cinnamon sticks for passion, a handful of pink rose petals for tenderness, and ½ cup of Epsom or Pink Himalayan salt. Add 3 cups of water. Together, bring them to a boil. Write down your love goals on a piece of paper. Be as specific as you want about what kind of love you want to bring into your life.

Now, you’ll need to make an offering to Venus to receive the love you crave. Fortunately, this task will only sweeten the deal — literally. Dip a spoon in a jar of honey and taste it. This is the offering Venus needs, because Venus was poisoned by honey. By tasting the honey, you’re sampling it to make sure it’s good and safe.

Take your letter of intention and hold it to your heart to manifest your romantic desires. Once the water starts to boil, take the pot off of the stove and let it cool down. Place 4 pink tea candles around the pot, add a drop of honey to the rim of the candles, and light them. Once the candles have burnt out and the water has cooled down to room temperature, you can strain the water and filter out the ingredients you’ll use. Then, you can either run the water over your shoulders in the shower or add them to a bath. Repeat for 5 days in a row.

Menstrual Diary

Start a menstrual journal. Keep track of your menses and write about the feelings and emotions that develop during this time. This is a very potent, magical time to embrace your intuition. You’ll be surprised by how much strength you have.

Sex Magic

Own your sexuality! Use your orgasms to set intentions. As you pleasure yourself or consensually with a partner, think of a goal that you want to achieve and attain. While climaxing, state the intention over and over. Being that sex and orgasms are powerful, you can make your visions true by manifesting them this way.

Honor The Moon

In astrology, the Moon represents our emotions and the ultimate feminine energy in our lives. A great way to harness the energy of Friday the 13th is to gaze upon the moon and speak your feelings. This will help you open your heart to finding what makes you happy.

According to astrology, the Moon also represents the maternal energy in our lives. This is a great time to connect with your mother, siblings, and best friends. Share your secrets, goals, and hopes for the future.

Protect Your Space And Energy

Protection work is always important, as it’s a way to shield yourself from people who want to feed off your energy. Therefore, you should always do protection work when doing other forms of magic or spiritual work.

A simple way to cleanse and protect your energy is through crystals. Obsidian is a great stone to use when you’re in need of protection — especially against haters and negativity. Sweep it over your body, throughout your home, and outside the perimeter of your house. Some people even keep it outside the entrance way of their homes, but you can also place it by a window or door inside of your house. This will keep you protected from all the potential bad vibes that can enter your personal space or affect your auric sphere.

Friday the 13th Spell by Irish Tatler

What You'll Need:

  • An airtight jar with a lid
  • Rainwater collected during the waning moon (ok, tap water is just fine, too) for banishing negativity
  • Silver nails or thumbtacks to represent the protection around you
  • Sunflowers or violets for protection and power
  • Fresh basil to drive off hostile spirits and protection
  • Fresh mint to banish negative energy
  • Ground cinnamon for protection
  • Ground ginger for strength
  • Paper
  • Pen/marker with blue ink
  • Black or dark blue candle

What to do:

  • Write your intention on a piece of paper. Be as specific as possible about what you want protection from. Fold and drop to the bottom of the jar.
  • Drop your nails or thumbtacks into the jar. This might seem aggressive, but you’re not actually using them to hurt anyone.
  • Tear up your basil and mix with the ground cinnamon and ginger, then sprinkle into the jar.
  • Drop the petals from the violets or sunflowers on top of it all.
  • Lastly, pour rain or tap water into the jar, imagining it flooding away the negativity and harm.
  • Seal the jar and burn a black or dark blue candle over the top of it. Place the jar somewhere in your home or keep it with you throughout the day

There you have it, now go forth and be spooky!

Simple Venus Love Spell for the Waning Moon by Goddess Rising

Friday the 13th is a particularly good time to cast a spell for love, healing, and prosperity.

You will need:

- 1 long red/pink ribbon or cord

- 1 red or pink candle

- Rose oil

Be in a quiet place undisturbed (On the Earth if possible):

1. On Friday at the Venus hour (11am or 11pm if possible), call upon the Goddess of Love as Venus, Freja, Aphrodite or any other Goddess you feel resonant with. Light and burn your candle that has been anointed with rose oil. Envision in your mind's eye that which you wish to experience in relation to love or prosperity as you wrap your ribbon or cord around your right index finger.

2. Place your pointer finger (still with ribbon) on your forehead at your 3rd eye (a quarter inch between and above your eyebrows). Concentrate your focus to `see`your desired outcome for 3 minutes.

3. Intuitively ask of yourself and with the support of your chosen Goddess that whatever needs to fall away for this desired outcome to arise, be revealed with ease & grace. Give thanks to the Goddess.

Blessed Be!

Goddess Frigga and Friday the 13th

The English name Friday is derived from Old English and means “day of Frigg,” the Norse goddess of fertility and love, who is often perceived as the same deity as Freya. Freya is the Norse goddess of sex, beauty, love, fertility, and had a chariot pulled by cats!

Author Charles Panati has this to say about Frigga, who was also perceived as Freya, and Friday the 13th:

"The actual origin of the superstition, though, appears also to be a tale in Norse mythology. Friday is named for Frigga, the free-spirited goddess of love and fertility. When Norse and Germanic tribes converted to Christianity, Frigga was banished in shame to a mountaintop and labeled a witch. It was believed that every Friday, the spiteful goddess convened a meeting with eleven other witches, plus the devil – a gathering of thirteen – and plotted ill turns of fate for the coming week. For many centuries in Scandinavia, Friday was known as “Witches’ Sabbath.”

“The Christians also declared Freya, who was also perceived as Frigga, a witch. They said that her cats, once they served her for 7 years, they would turn into witches disguised as black cats. It is also said that she came down to a group of witches who numbered 12 and gave them one of her cats. Since then, witches covens have had 13 members. This is also why Friday the 13th is considered an evil day.”

However, “today some modern witches are reclaiming Friday the 13th. In 2012, urban shaman and ritual expert Donna Hennes wrote for the Huffington Post, “Up until the patriarchal revolution, both Fridays and 13s were held in the very highest esteem. Both the day and the number were associated with the Great Goddesses, and therefore, regarded as the sacred essence of luck and good fortune."

She explained, "Thirteen is certainly the most essentially female number — the average number of menstrual cycles in a year. The approximate number, too, of annual cycles of the moon... Thirteen is the number of blood, fertility, and lunar potency.” She added that in Anglo-Saxon, Scandinavian, Iceland, and Teutonic cultures, Friday is associated with “ the early Mother Creation Goddesses for whom that day was named,” called Freya, Freia, Freyja, Fir, Frea or Frig.”

So how do you view Friday the 13th? Do you have any spells you want to do? Have some sex, play with cats and celebrate, create & nourish yourself!
