I'm updating DNS for the Dresden Codak site, and it'll be down until roughly this evening or so. But there will be a new comic up tomorrow!

It's not DNS. It can't be DNS. It was DNS. -Old networking proverb

I heard the Do Not Sleep protocol needs constant fidgeting—or, maybe that' just for fidjits like me?

Hmmm vendor change?! DNS propagation delays are always fun. Things are still timing out here on the east coast of USA as of 19:15 local time. I'll keep checking...

I don't think there's any reason to do that, I'll let everyone know with an update

As a network guy, I was not aware that I needed this. I do, in fact, need this. :)

While this may not necessarily be the case here, but if you need to change IP addresses and have full access to your DNS records - specifically the TTL value (Time To Live - how long a DNS entry is allowed to be cached before it is considered stale), setting the TTL value to something relatively small - like an hour or two - will cause DNS to update faster. The trick is to set the value, then wait the length of time the old value was set to before making other changes - this makes sure the new TTL value is now cached. Then you make the change, wait for at least as long as the current (new) TTL value, then go in and change the TTL to what it was before. Handy when you need to change hosts but want to minimize downtime. Yes, it does increase the load on the DNS servers somewhat, but with advance planning you can minimize that.

It's *always* the DNS.
