Dark Science #134 - Wildfire - Dresden Codak

The Reverse Pickle is an advanced manoeuvre and should only be performed by protagonists extremely versed in Pickles. Fortunately, Kim is old hat at those. (Gorgeous work, this palette was a phenomenal choice.)

Who needs armor when you have a sword, eh?

Nathan Fish

I cannot wait to find out how her alternate personality managed to change costume.

Hugh Eckert

Love the dynamics of this...

Torabi

The outfit she found on page 66 changes according to her needs. It's first shown transforming on page 75, then again on 82, and again on 91. The jacket just kind of disintegrated when Kim threw it to Ling on page 100.

dresdencodak

Yeah its origins are currently unknown, but it appears to respond to Kim's mental commands and operates on the same rules as Dark Scientists' tools (ie: disintegrating when a non-user holds it)

I'm curious about the glyphs on The Marquis's sword. They almost look runic, but given the strong classical Roman and Levantine influences, I doubt it. Is it a real script or artistic license?

dresdencodak

Well I will say they're definitely something to pay attention to!

I am so enjoying the battle.

Nathan Fish

Clearly I need to re-read, I don't remember that!

Torabi

Re-reading Dark Science is always the correct answer. I sometimes read it backwards, and find that helps with putting the pieces together.

Oh, and I totally noticed that the sword changes its glyphs depending on what it's doing. Given that the name of the comic is inspired by the Dresden Codex, I spent way too much time combing through obscure writing systems trying to find an answer for this. It appears similar to Brāmī, Buhid, and Mongolian square scripts, but all transliterations come out as jibberish. Too bad DoQ trashed the Archaeology dept.

Finally catching up on my e-mails, and always like seeing a Senna message in my Patreon folder :) I love the action in this one. The only thing that is a wee bit off to me is Kim's red eyes. That just seems wrong - like she is now an evil d(a)emon or something.

it's a boring name

top tier otherworldly blade too, makes me think about the cover of Smoulder's Times Of Obscene Evil And Wild Daring every time which I love thinking about
