THE IRON BARGE Book One kickstarter preview (Patreon)
Content
Hey everyone! I wanted to share a project with you that I've been working on for awhile now.
THE IRON BARGE is a talking animal adventure comic, a la Mouse Guard meets Fallout. This project has been going for almost 2 years, and it's been a weird journey, but this week we're launching a kickstarter to help our team finish book one.
The story follows an Otter named Brook, bringing the lemur pirate Porter to justice and travelling with him across the Las Vegas Casino kingdoms left behind in a post-apocalyptic world.
The journey for making this book happen has been a wild one! Norm Harper (the writer) and I were originally working with a publisher on it! We were signed, they promised an actually decent page rate, the editor and publisher were super excited and I got the first 2 chapters inked. And then the publisher had a bad sales quarter and cancelled a bunch of books mid-development, ours included. Which, as you can imagine, didn't feel great!Norm and I had a talk about what to do next, and I actually pitched him on kickstarter. I've been more and more frustrated with publishers even before our book getting cancelled. And rather than try to pitch this book to yet another swath of publishers, I convinced him to try self-publishing instead.
And so, we're launching a kickstarter on Wednesday!Book One is a 52 page comic, collecting the first 2 chapters. It's gonna be a lot more lightweight than the GODSLAVE books, so shipping to CANADA is 10 and everywhere else is 15!
The base comic tier is $15, and we've got a couple EARLY BIRD Artist Edition spots for no extra charge.
For commissions, I'm keeping in theme with the book and doing something a little different! All the commissions are IRON BARGE Pet Commissions! Meaning pets drawn as if they are citizens in the world of IRON BARGE.
This kickstarter is different from my last two in a lot of ways. Obviously, it's my first non-GODSLAVE campaign. It's also my first kickstarter with a team! After I talked to Norm, we brought on my friend Allison as an editor, and Norm's go-to letterer Oceano. This kickstarter is also very different in its budget.
In past kickstarters, all the budget went to printing, shipping and the time for fulfillment. For THE IRON BARGE, you are helping us do all of that. But you're also helping our team sustainably work on this comic. Like it shows in the graphic, about half the budget goes to paying page rates. By backing the kickstarter, you're helping us afford the time to work on this book!
We're all super excited to finally launch THIS WEDNESDAY! Like I mentioned at the start, this book has been in the works for almost 2 years and I truly can't wait to share what we've been asking with you.
