Hey everyone! It’s been a month since the last update, and over a week since any real art went up on here or social media.

At the end of January I had to wrap up a major colouring deadline. And then a little over a week before the due date, I was informed of some pipeline miscommunications between the artist > to editor> to me. A miscommunication which required a lot more work in the same amount of time. It wasn’t any one person’s fault, it needed to be done.

Thankfully, I was able to meet the deadline. It required a 6 day work week followed by a 7 day work week. But I was able to take 2 blessed days off before returning to my office.

Unfortunately, that did not work out

I genuinely thought I just rusty, after having coloured however many days straight to return to comics again? But the exhaustion was something else, and I eventually gave up to relax for the rest of the day. The same thing happened Thursday too.

Friday, I didn’t do any drawing but I did need to be at my desk for a couple meetings. That wasn’t too bad, and then I was able to take the weekend to further rest. I mostly watched anime and did laundry.

I’ve experienced burn out before, but never for that long. I don’t know if it was the deadline or at the added exhaustion of quarantine that exacerbated things. But it was frustrating to wake up day after day and trying to sit at my desk, only to feel like my tank was still empty.

Yesterday, I taught my first 2 online classes of the semester and managed that okay! Today is a bit more class work and a meeting, and then tomorrow I’m on Godslave again. I’ve been feeling better so far, so I’m hoping that continues!

Other than that, the only thing I’ve been working on is a new logo with the Hiveworks’ designer! Originally we were just working on a new website design, but the conversation then turned to my dissatisfaction with the Godslave logo (or lack there of) We started with some meetings and it’s been super interesting to see how the process works! And how we’ve begun to come to something I love and didn’t even know I wanted.

Here’s that journey so far:

It’s been fun to learn how making/choosing a logo works. It’s something I’ve avoided for a long time because I know so little about it.

The last thing I’ll mention is that the Take Off! website is back up! Take Off! was my first webcomic, and I had a couple issues with the host/domain. But my friend Kate Drwecka sat on a call with me for a few hours to help sort it out!

Take off is now at a new URL, takeoff.megacarter.com

It’s actually been back up for a little while, but I took some time to update the chapter button links (photobucket was holding them hostage) and added a Godslave button on the side! I also took down the countdown pages to Godslave’s launch.

That’s it from me for now! Take care and see with Godslave updates this week!

Take all the time you need to recover! Good work is always worth waiting for :).

Oh, so sorry that burnout hit you so hard! I can definitely relate to the lack of focus. Take the time you need to replenish yourself. Glad that Take Off! has a home again!
