Hey everyone, I wanted to discuss the future of Godslave updates going forward. After a year of Update Drops, I wanted to evaluate your feelings as readers.

Obviously, I’ve made it no secret that the Update Drops work a lot better with my contract schedule. I’m able to create with much higher quality when I’m not worrying about getting a page out every week.

On the downside, it means the way people experience the story is a little clunky and it’s easier to drop out from reading the story altogether.

With this in mind, I wanted to put forward a second option: while I can’t just resume working on Godslave weekly again, I CAN build a buffer and then update the comic weekly.

The thing holding me back is that this would take time. Like, the rest of the year. A 30 page buffer, updated weekly would last about 5-6 months. It just means it would take about that long to put it together. We wouldn’t see another update until at least January.

It really depends on how everyone would like to experience the story. Another 5-8 page drop could be posted in the fall and read all at once.

So let me know your thoughts! Do you miss weekly updates? Have you enjoyed the Drop Updates? Is January too long to wait? I’m going to put this question out on social media as well, but comment below with your opinion⚡️⚡️

I am happy to have the story unfold as you, see fit. My choice ‘em would be for you to maintain quality and if it takes you longer, so be it.

I'm all for a way of working for easier updates. Godslave batch updates feel more like individual pages rather than a complete chapter / episode / scene though, compared with other monthy, multipage updating comics I read. How about once you have a batch done, just posting them individually over several days rather than in a block? You get to work in batches, I get the some of the “What'll happen tomorrow?!?” excitement, without waiting until January to start regular updates. So this is a vote for smeared-out bursts, I guess?

Personally I’ve really enjoyed the drop updates, especially with getting to see sneak peaks of the pages through the spoilers tier! Ultimately I think you should do whatever works best for you and your schedule- your health and happiness is far more important than any type of updates, after all! If you decide to build a big buffer and not resume updates until January then maybe you could make a few little sketch/gag comics? That way people outside of Patreon would have a reason to come back regularly between the drops

I've honestly been enjoying the drop updates + seeing the behind the scenes as you work through them has been a ton of fun. It's even better that it's a style that works for you too! I'd hate for you to return to a workflow that isn't optimal for you. If there's a concern for like.... needing a more spread out upload times to keep site traffic/excitement up: maybe instead of a weekly schedule for one page, let it be one page every 2 weeks/bimonthly? This way there'd be a consistent revisit schedule and the next drop you make would take 4 months to run its course on the site, in time for you to complete the next drop to queue up and so on. You wouldn't need as much of a buffer that way either if the schedule works out for you.

I've really been enjoying the quality of the current batched updates! Would I pull or reduce my pledge in the face of a six-month drought? A quick look at the rest of my pledges says... "huh, apparently not!" As long as the promised pages are actually forthcoming, I don't see any problem. (Although, looking at some of these other creators, I may need to re-evaluate some of them...) Would I really like to be able to binge the entire 30 pages when they're ready? Yes, but I suppose this is up to you. Frankly, reading any (ongoing) comic at a page-per-week rate is excruciating -- and perhaps being good makes it even more so. Would I care if Godslave turned into something I read twice per year? Nope. You'd be in pretty good company with the creators that I just buy a TPB from every two or three years -- but that's an entirely different sort of arrangement which I understand isn't feasible for you right now.

For me the periodic drops totally destroy the continuity of the storyline. It feels like there has only been one drop since the schedule change (but I know that is not true). Unless you have a situation where you have to build your buffer in one hit, build a smaller buffer but instead of dropping all the pages in one hit feed them out week by week. That way it keeps your readers engaged with the story rather than letting it get to the point where people have lost all sense of what went before.

What Scott W says goes for me too. Knowing there will be an update and knowing when it will arrive outweigh the speed of the up dates.

I personally see weekly updates as great for maintaining interest from new readers not just current supporters. As such I would be fine with a pause in updates until January. Though I also see bi-weekly post as a good middle ground between weekly updates and the drop method. In my opinion which ever choice you see as benefiting the growth & health of the community would be the best choice.

I am happy with the drop update. It might be different for people who don't have the patreon. If the update is not weekly it becomes difficult to keep following.

Someone else suggested biweekly updates. I like that. I prefer it over monthly and definitely over "no updates until there is a six month backlog to post."
