Gollum was the phlegmy sound he made in his throat which became more pronounced as he transformed. People began to use it as a derisive nickname. The Saruman death scene SHOULD NOT have been deleted and Christopher Lee rightly took issue with that decision. That scene when Gandalf whacks the crap out of Denethor is hysterical! I love how Tolkien describes Shelob: "The last child of Ungoliant to trouble the unhappy world." The Battle of Pelennor Fields is one of cinema's top five battle scenes. Just extraordinary. Eowyn: "I am no man!" I'm a dude and I cheer every time. Great moment! According to the Lore, The Mouth of Sauron was a Black Numenorean meaning a long-lived descendant of the men of Numenor (Atlantis) like Aragorn but whose ancestors fell under the sway of Sauron when he was in mortal guise as a captive on the island kingdom. He serves as a dark reflection of Aragorn. Sam: "I can't carry it for you but I can carry you!" Another great moment! Aragorn to the hobbits: "You bow to no one." Yet another great moment! I love how Viggo practically eats Liv Tyler's face! Lol. The Orcs retreated into the dark places of the world and Middle-Earth has many mountain ranges with deep roots. A great reason to swear off spelunking! Sam is the true Everyman hero of the saga. R.I.P. Ian Holm who passed this week at the age of 88. Definitely react to the ALIEN TRILOGY if you've never seen them! Ian Holm has another signature role as Ash in the first film. THE HOBBIT has its moments but is overstuffed with unnecessary CG sequences to pad out a trilogy of films. I recommend the animated Rankin and Bass version voiced by Orson Bean which has a smooth and charming narrative despite primitive animation. Please also react to JOHN CARTER which is a hugely underrated science fiction film based on Edgar Rice Burroughs' sword-and-planet adventure "A Princess of Mars".
