Who did the supports? That’s some massive damage to visible areas

McCrary's Hobby Room

I 100% agree. The damage is substantial. I would HIGHLY consider looking into TableFlip Foundry. Ty is willing to teach you everything you need to know about supports to massively reduce damage to prints. He doesn't gate keep support knowledge or put it behind a pay wall. But, for a price, they can also pre-support all of your models for release. He has youtube videos on how to support and a discord group that's all about helping the community. You should check them out!

Those contact points for the print really need work. Honestly reworking the cuts completely would be the route I would go. It's always tricky to print fine detail stuff. I end up using miliput/greenstuff, and a wet toothpick to form details.

The poor supports were the reason I stopped subbing a while back, and to see how bad the scars are in the official test prints doesn't give me confidence. It's a shame because your guys' sculpts are probably some of the best looking. I just really wish you guys had more professional supports.

The damage you're seeing is actually from a community member’s custom supports, not the ones we provided. Our supported version is a bit different and designed to avoid issues like that on visible areas. I’ll pass the feedback along and see if we can help improve it for a smoother result next time.

Thank you so much for the detailed recommendation — really appreciate it! 100% agree that minimizing damage from supports is super important, especially for visible areas. Will check TableFlip Foundry and see if we can improve the support and also check with their service.

Sure, we will also consider making better cuts. And props to you for using Miliput/Greenstuff with a wet toothpick - that’s some real hobbyist dedication! 😄

It really means a lot to hear you enjoy the sculpts, and I truly hope we can regain your confidence with cleaner, more professional supports going forward. This is something we will improve on. So, you get more smooth and cleaner print. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts!

Now I'm going to have to print this model and see how it looks. The only models of OXO3D that I have printed are the Jessica & Roger Rabit and Princess Leia and I don't recall having any of these scars.

For what it's worth, I found the best practice is to do my own supports. This is particularly true since I prefer printing at 1:4 scale. The problem is that although many artists sculpt nice figures, they don't do so with the printing process in mind. Thus, finding the optimal orientation for a given part and building the best supports possible can be a challenge.

I am going to add that this is a beautiful figure. And, the support issue aside -- a non-issue for me, I couldn't be happier with it!

Thank you! We're really glad you like our sculpts. 😊 We do provide supported versions with our models and are always open to feedback on how we can improve them. Just a quick note — this particular print was done by a community member using their own custom supports. Our official supported version is different to this one.
